JOCKEY CLUB UNVEILS RULINGS DATABASE Edited press release The Jockey Club announced yesterday the launch of Regulatory Rulings, a searchable online database of rulings on Thoroughbred trainers from racing regulatory authorities. The web address is thoroughbredrulings.com. AIn response to recommendations from the recent McKinsey study, Thoroughbred Regulatory Rulings is one part of a strategic initiative to develop new information resources to assist owners and other decision makers in our industry,@ explained James L. Gagliano, president and chief operating officer of The Jockey Club. AThis website was created as a service to the industry to make regulatory information more easily accessible. Over time, we will add more features to this database and eventually migrate it into a new, comprehensive website for owners." Alex Waldrop, president and chief executive officer of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, added, "Providing access to regulatory rulings is an important part of maintaining the overall integrity of our sport. Our fans and owners have told us repeatedly that they desire greater transparency, and this new website is clearly a step in that direction.@ The design of the Thoroughbred Regulatory Rulings database features extensive sort and advanced-search functions supporting queries of the data, including regulatory authority, date range, trainer name and track/association. Thoroughbred Regulatory Rulings currently includes approximately 12,000 Thoroughbred trainer rulings from 33 U.S. racing jurisdictions.

NJ DEAL IN THE WORKS? It's been a rollercoaster week for New Jersey horsemen, but things appear to have ended on a positive note Friday. Daily Racing Form is reporting that, according to representatives of the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen=s Association, a tentative agreement has been reached with Gov. Chris Sarah K. Andrew photo Christie that will allow for Monmouth Park to conduct a 141-day meet in 2012 while the state re-opens the bidding for a long-term lease of the Oceanport oval. Earlier in the month, real estate developer Morris Bailey backed out of a deal to lease Monmouth Park--which is owned by the state-controlled New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA)--after horsemen and Christie clashed over details of an original agreement reached in June. Horsemen said Christie reneged on a deal to allow them control over Thoroughbred dates originally licenced for The Meadowlands, while Christie said horsemen pushed a last-minute request for a 2012 purse subsidyB something he's adamantly opposed to. On Tuesday, Christie held a press conference and threatened to shutter the track if the horsemen and the NJSEA couldn't come to some kind of an agreement before Monday. On Thursday, Oceanport Mayor Mike Mahon offered for the borough to act as a "transitional vehicle" until a new lessee was found. According to DRF, the pending deal calls for Monmouth purses to be funded strictly through handle in 2012. Last season, the track conducted an "Elite Summer Meet," with purses boosted significantly from $30 million in subsidies. According to the New Jersey Star-Ledger, Monmouth employs approximately 1,600 people at the height of the season and pays $1.84 million annually in property taxes to Oceanport.

HRTV=s Carolyn Conley from the Gran Premio Internacional Carlos Pelligrini Making the Scene... Another very interesting day in Argentina. Thank goodness for the "cafe con leche" and the "media lunas" (croissants with a sweet glaze) to get the day started. It is true that dinners in Buenos Aires run late into the night. At restaurants the food often doesn't reach the table until at least 11:00 p.m. I promised a bit of inside information yesterday on the contenders, so here goes...

Star Runner: The son of Southern Halo is trained by the Jumbalaya: Just 3 years old, this tall bay filly beat the old school "entrenador" Ernesto Romero. Romero is like boys last time out in the G1 Gran Premio Copa de Oro a combination of Mel Stute and Bobby Frankel, with a at San Isidro. She is just the kind of filly that you would bit of D. Wayne Lukas thrown in. His colt won the picture in a classic painting--tall, angular, regal, and Estrellas Classic last June (the Breeders' Cup Classic of plain bay. She looks so good that it was hard to take South America) and hasn't started since. The blood bay my eyes off her. The interesting part is that the has been nursing a sore foot, but Romero feels like he's connections feel more confident in the chances of her ready to go. Star Runner worked in 1:00 flat on the stablemate, Video Game, who has been working innermost training track this week, which is considered extremely well in the morning. The listed trainer, very fast for that dirt oval. This is a top-class horse in Humberto Paez, is actually the assistant trainer to Jose South America and should be respected. Alvez, who is serving a suspension.

Veraneio: This big bay looks incredible. I visited with the Good luck in the Pelligrini, and remember to watch it Brazilian contingent on Friday morning and when they live on HRTV at 5:40 ET. I will be sending interviews kindly led the colt out of his box for us to see, I was and reports in the hour leading up, and catching up with smiling from ear to ear. Wow, and this is only a the winning connections after. 3-year-old. He will only get bigger and stronger and he's already pretty big and strong now. Veraneio has a very Ciao strong looking back and hind end, a big barrel, and reminds me of my all-time favorite horse, who is also THIS DATE IN HISTORY... Brazilian and a dual Grade I winner, Siphon. His trainer, Estanislau Petrochinski Jr. won the Pelligrini last year December 17, 1936...Crooner Bing Crosby announced with Xin Xu Lin, and said that this horse is just as plans to construct a new racetrack, to be called the Del talented. Veraneio is my pick in the Pelligrini. Mar Turf Club. Val Champ: A son of Val Royal, Val Champ, for trainer Jorge Valdivieso is a steel gray color and is not December 17, 1970...Canonero II, winless in a pair of extremely big. Earlier this month, the Ocala Breeders= Sales Company in Florida announced that longtime employee Tod Wojciechowski (pronounced woe-ja-HUS-kee) has been tabbed to replace Tom Ventura as director of sales. Ventura is assuming the role as OBS president when Tom Chiota leaves the post June 30, 2012. The 45- year-old Wojciechowski, a Cornell grad, has been involved in the Thoroughbred industry throughout Tod Wojciechowski his life. He agreed to sit down with the TDN=s Lucas Marquardt recently to answer some questions about the future of OBS, the Thoroughbred industry, and the rivalry that first drew him to the sport.

In your new role as OBS's Director of Sales, what are some of the things you'd like to do to help the company move forward? First, Tom Chiota and Tom Ventura have done a great job. I look forward to continuing their efforts working with sellers to offer quality horses for buyers. How long have you been with OBS and what are some of the things you've worked on previously? I have worked with OBS inspecting horses for the last 10 years. For the last three years, I have also assisted with horsemen relations and visiting horsemen at the tracks, mainly in the Midwest. I have also helped with sale-day operations.

You have a background both buying and selling. Can you talk about your Thoroughbred background a little bit--how you got into the sport, your move to Florida, etc.? I have been involved in the racing industry for the better part of my life. My first job was walking hots at Atlantic City Race Course when I was 9 years old. My father was a track farrier, and my mother trained horses. We lived in Florida, traveling to tracks during the summer. When I was in my late teens, my parents began pinhooking yearling to two-year-olds, and continued doing so up until just a few years ago. After college, I began working at a number of tracks on the front side, the last as publicity director at Tampa Bay Downs in 1990. Although I enjoyed working in management, I missed the action of working directly with horses. I traveled to Texas in the summer of 1991 with a string of horses, and met my wife there. My first pinhooking venture was in 1992. A buddy of mine put up the money for two short yearlings, and I provided the sweat equity. We made money on both horses, and I was hooked on the auction game ever since. Most of the good things in my life have happened because of UPCOMING MAJOR NORTH AMERICAN STAKES this industry.
