Covino Dr. Daryl Gross Assistant Coaches Michael Jacobson University President Director of Athletics Soccer Office Phone 323-343-3089 2 After leading the Golden Eagles to a fifth straight appearance in the NCAA Division II playoffs in 2015, Chris Chamides returns for his 14th season as the head coach of the men’s soccer program at Cal Chamides Quick Facts State LA. Chamides guided a team riddled with injuries to its eighth NCAA trip in the past 10 years and its ninth California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament bid in 10 seasons. Overall Record Chamides and the Golden Eagles continued their string of postseason success, advancing to the 156-73-38 (13 Seasons) semi-finals of the West Regional for the eighth straight time. He also directed Cal State LA into a national CCAA Coach of the Year top-10 ranking for a ninth straight season. 3 (2004, 2009, 2011) Chamides has turned around a program that had seven straight losing seasons before he arrived in 2003 and transformed it into one of the top programs in the nation. He has led the Golden Eagles to Region Coach of the Year a 156-73-38 overall record in his first 13 years and became the program’s all-time wins leader in 2011. 1 (2006) In the past 10 years, Cal State LA is 131-47-33. He has guided the Golden Eagles into the NCAA West Region championship match five times during that span, including championships in 2011 and 2014. C CCAA Tournament Appearances O Chamides also led the team to No. 1 national rankings during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. 9 (06-09, 11-15) AC Chamides, who has vast experience in both Major League Soccer (MLS) and NCAA soccer, has HIN earned six Coach of the Year awards in his 13 years at Cal State LA and he was named the CCAA Coach NCAA Tournament Appearances G of the Year in both men’s and women’s soccer in 2009. 8 (06, 08-09, 11-15) S T Cal State LA has collected 60 All-CCAA, 36 All-West Region and 11 All-America awards during A Chamides’ tenure. That total includes three CCAA Player of the Year awards, two CCAA Freshman of the West Region Championships FF Chris Chamides Year awards and two CCAA Newcomer of the Year awards. Cal State L.A. has also earned the first four 2 (2011, 2014) CoSIDA Academic All-America awards in the program’s history in the past four years, including two in Head Coach 2014. CCAA Championships G Over the past five seasons, the Golden Eagles are 67-17-21 overall and an incredible 47-9-14 in 2 (2011, 2013) P OLDEN conference play with five CCAA Championship Tournament and NCAA Division II playoff appearances. L ay Chamides came to Cal State LA after achieving great success with a pair of Major League Soccer organizations. He served as the Senior Players Under Chamides ER Director of Soccer for the San Jose Earthquakes from 2000-02. While in the role, Chamides was directly involved in all soccer-related facets, including All-Americans: 12 B roster development. He helped build a San Jose squad that won the 2001 MLS Cup one year after having the league’s worst record. The roster E All-Region: 36 AG included high-profile players such as Landon Donovan, Jeff Agoos, Dwayne DeRosario and Jimmy Conrad. Academic All-American: 4 IOS LE Chamides also served as an assistant coach for Chivas USA for four seasons. In 2006, he worked under MLS Coach of the Year and former U.S. Academic All-District: 8 National Team Head Coach Bob Bradley and he also worked for three years with former Chivas USA Head Coach Preki. In his time with Chivas USA, CCAA Player of the Year: 3 the roster included Claudio Suarez, Ramon Ramirez, Paco Palencia, Jonathan Bornstein, Sacha Kljestan, Jesse Marsch, Ante Razov and Brad Guzan. CCAA Newcomer of the Year: 2 Chivas USA reached the MLS playoffs in each of the four seasons, their only playoff appearances in team history. CCAA Freshman of the Year: 2 R At Cal State LA, Chamides led the Golden Eagles to a 12-5-3 overall record in 2015 and trips to the NCAA and CCAA tournaments despite All-CCAA: 62 E injuries that wiped out nearly the entire starting defensive corps. Despite that, Cal State LA finished 14th in the nation in goals against average and C ORD allowed more than one goal in a game only twice in 20 contests. B In 2014, Chamides crafted a defense that led the NCAA Division II in goals against average and save percentage and helped the Golden Eagles finish the season with a national ranking of 6, which was the best for the program since 1992. OOKS Chamides directed a championship team that advanced past UC San Diego, Azusa Pacific and Seattle Pacific in the NCAA playoffs to win the West Region title and finished the season ranked No. 6 in the country. A dramatic 1-0 win in overtime at top-seed Seattle Pacific gave the Golden Eagles their most recent NCAA West Region Championship and a spot in the NCAA Quarterfinals. Cal State LA finished the 2014 season with a 15-4-2 overall record and set new program records for goals against average (0.415), fewest goals allowed in a season (9) and most shutouts (13). & A & The 2013 season included the sixth conference title in the program’s history and the second in a three-year span. The Golden Eagles put together a 15-match unbeaten streak that began after their lone regular-season defeat and continued with CCAA tournament victories over Sonoma State and UC San Diego. A CC W Cal State LA earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II West Region and hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA playoffs. The Golden Eagles were 14-2-5 overall and 10-1-5 A OL in conference play. The Golden Eagles had the best regular-season record in the 12-team CCAA for the fourth time in five years and finished the year with a national ranking of 13.
