On Sunday, March 1 2017 at 2 p.m., In the Mood, a fully staged tribute to Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Sinatra and the big band greats of the ’40s, returns to the LBC with 19 performers o stage, including six singer-dancers. The Grammy-winning duo Indigo Girls bring their signatu sonic blend of folk and rock to Santa Rosa on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 8 p.m. for an outstanding program of fan favorites from across their groundbreaking career. Due to popular demand, the LBC has added a second performance of Julianne and Derek Hough’s MOVE – BEYOND – LIVE ON TOUR on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 4 p.m. On Saturday August 26 2017 at 8 p.m., Ira Glass, the host of the popular NPR radio show This American Life, invites audiences to the LBC for an evening of engaging stories about his life, career and his approac with the creative process for Seven Things I’ve Learned: An Evening with Ira Glass. On Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 8 p.m., Gipsy Kings featuring Nicolas Reyes and Tonino Baliardo, the Grammy-winning band behind the smash hit song “Bamboléo,” celebrates over 2 years of flamenco, salsa, and pop fusion perfection in the party-starting spirit of the south of France. Tickets for In the Mood range in price from $35–$65. Tickets for Indigo Girls range in price fro $39–$49. Tickets for Julianne and Derek Hough’s MOVE – BEYOND – LIVE ON TOUR range price from $69–$99. With 19 performers on stage, including six singer-dancers, In the Mood is a fully staged tribut Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Sinatra and the big band greats of the ’40s. Complete with period costumes and choreography, In the Mood pays homage to America’s greatest generation who fought WWII! It was a time when people listened and boogied to up- tempo big band rhythms and danced intimate ballads. Many of the musical arrangements were written by Vic Schoen, conductor and arranger for The Andrews Sisters, and Music Director fo Universal and Paramount Pictures. Audiences are invited to experience the swing, the rhythm the jazzy, brassy, sentimental and patriotic music of this pivotal time in America’s history. The Grammy-winning duo, Indigo Girls, consisting of Emily Saliers and Amy Ray, have spent thirty-five years performing together, produced fifteen albums (seven gold, four platinum, and o double platinum), and have toured arenas, festivals, and clubs the world over. It is rare to find musicians together so long, rarer still with such profound successes. Their music lives in the hearts of generations of dedicated fans and continues to inspire young musicians. This loyalty not accidental. Perhaps their relevance over three decades can be credited to the mighty collisions of distinct aesthetics forging new paths over time. To refute any notion of a homogeneous South and demonstrate the dynamic nature of an individual or community identity, I examine the history, song lyrics, performances, and activism of the folk-rock duo the Indigo Girls and their hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. In recent years, the visibility of LGBTQ people in the music world has increased, and more popular music has been created that openly describes the LGBTQ experience. There has also been an increase in books and films related to LGBTQ visibility in popular music, both in fiction and nonfiction. This bibliography includes resources about gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender persons involved in the popular music field. The books have all been published in print, and many of them may also be found as e-books. Separate sections contain memoirs, novels, plays, and children’s and teen books. Several LGBT popular music-related DVDs are also listed. Each book and DVD has a link to the OCLC WorldCat record (when available) where you can see which libraries hold the item. Most of this resource is comprised of a discography of popular music recordings by LGBTQ artists. It is not meant to be complete, but many recordings still available in CD format for each artist are listed, and several are annotated. Many of these performers’ songs can now also be found on streaming music services and online digital music websites.

With the help of visionary new producer Jordan Brooke Hamlin (Lucy Wainwright Roche) and mixer Brian Joseph (Bon Iver, PHOX, Kathleen Edwards), Amy Ray and Emily Sailers have created a landscape of truly original sounds and stories ranging from stark intimacy to bombastic pop and grind. On ONE LOST DAY, musicality, whimsy, rawness, sadness and joy move through each of the 13 tracks. This theme is especially evident on the first single, “Happy in the Sorrow Key,” written by Amy Ray. “I drew from lyrics I wrote during some of my travels with the IG’s,” Amy said. “I was thinking about the things that keep us weighed down with non-acceptance and a refusal to embrace impermanence and suffering.
