Especially recommended is the organization’s boat tour along the Chicago River, which depart several times each day. Architecture aficionados may also want to check out one of the tours run by the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust http://www.flwright.org/tours 2. Get a picnic basket and a bottle of wine at Pastoral (53 East Lake Street) and enjoy! 4. Glessner House Museum Designed in 1885 by architect J.J. Richardson, the landmark Glessner House has been designated at National Historic Landmark, and has been restored too much of its original appearance. Glessner House is half a mile from the McCormick Place Convention Center. 5. Pillar of Fire Monument Right outside the Chicago Fire Academy, this sculpture marks the spot where the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 started. The fire killed over 200 people and destroyed over 3 square miles of the city. Legend has it that the conflagration began when Mrs. O’Leary’s cow kicked over a lantern in a barn located on the site. This version turned out to be a myth created by a local journalist. The real origins of the fire remain mysterious. One block away from the monument is Manny’s Restaurant, the best Jewish deli in the city (1141 South Jefferson Street.) It was here, in the 1970s that @poisonreview invented the flipped classroom (or so he claims.) Chicago Skyline Chicago Tools and downloads 1. Chicago Transport Map 2. Chicago Map and Walks 3.
