After all, how could a business with no experience of the international luxury car market have any hope of matching, let alone exceeding the achievements of the industry’s established leaders? Even within Toyota there were doubters who said his plans were simply impossible. The doubters were all proved wrong. Thanks to the inspiration and utter dedication of the people behind the “Circle F” project – that’s F for Flagship – the Lexus LS 400 was born. It’s a car that history now recognises as a landmark model, a revolutionary disruptor that redefined what luxury motoring was all about. SETTING was a top-secret project, with more THE TARGETS CIRCLE F than 4,000 people involved in bringing it to fruition. Right from the start, the targets set for the LS were exceptional. Its top speed had to be 250 km/h, yet it would deliver 10.5 l/100 km. Its aerodynamic styling would have a drag coefficient of no more than 0.29, and when cruising at 100 km/h, the noise level in the cabin would not exceed 58 dB. To put those figures into context, the LS would be faster, quieter, more aerodynamic and more fuel-efficient than any of its German rivals.

Toyota Production System Prof. Rajat Agrawal Department of Management Studies Indian Institute of Technology – Roorkee Module No # 02 Lecture No # 08 Toyota Way in Action Welcome friends, in our last session, we discussed about the role of culture in implementing the Toyota Production System, we discussed that it is not about tools and techniques, it is more about the concept and we explained the concept with the help of TPS house where we discussed that four elements including 2 pillars, 1 roof and 1 foundation. These 4 elements are crucial, they may be connected in different ways, but their interconnectedness is very important for the Toyota's actual performance. Then, we also discussed that there are certain basic premise and 4 premises were discussed and based on those 4 premises. We discussed different principles of Toyota production system, we agreed on 1 point that it is the particular people centric philosophy and that people centric philosophy supported by certain tools techniques will help you to achieve the excellence. If that particular concept comes to your mind, then whether it is a manufacturing organization or a service organization, you will achieve excellence. Now with this respect we need to see that Toyota Production System talks of philosophy, but, in the beginning itself, if you remember our very first session, we discussed that it is philosophy in action it is not simply philosophy, it is philosophy in action. And that is why this system is being followed this system becomes one of the most important point of attraction to achieve the excellence.

  • Toyota and Why It Is So Successful
View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE Toyota and Why It Is So Successful Robert B. Austenfeld, Jr. (Received on May 10, 2006) 1. Introduction The purpose of this paper is to describe one of the most successful companies in the world and explain the reasons for that success. Fortune magazine’s Febru- ary 20, 2006 edition featured this headline on its cover: “The Tragedy of General Motors” and a story of GM’s woes by Carol J. Loomis. Two weeks later, Fortune’s next edition on March 6, 2006 had this headline on its cover: “How Toyota Does It: The Triumph of the Prius.” This stark contrast is typical of the stories circulating in the media these days. At a time when a company that was once admired and for many years held the lofty position of the world biggest automaker appears on the brink of bankruptcy1), Toyota is about to overtake it in global sales this year (O’Dell, 2005). Why is Toyota continuing to thrive at a time when other carmakers are struggling to survive? At the outset I would like to acknowledge the main source for much of the in- formation in this paper: The Toyota Way: 14 Management Principles from the World’s Greatest Manufacturer by Jeffrey K. Liker (2004). This paper is organized as follows: 1. Introduction 2. The history of Toyota 3. The Toyota Way 4. Summary and conclusion 1) As of May 2006 GM was still struggling to stay out of bankruptcy. ― 109 ― Papers of the Research Society of Commerce and Economics, Vol.

  • The Lexus Revolution: 30 Years of Amazing
THE LEXUS REVOLUTION: 30 YEARS OF AMAZING REWOLUCJA KONSTRUKCYJNA: JAK TOYOTA ZROBIŁA “NAJLEPSZY SAMOCHÓD NA ŚWIECIE” W 1983 roku prezydent koncernu Toyota, Eiji Toyoda, rzucił swym współpracownikom wyzwanie, by marka stworzyła „samochód lepszy od najlepszych na świecie”.
