NEWSLETTER 34 (July 25, 2011) GM HANS TIKKANEN IS THE NEW SWEDISH CHESS CHAMPION!!! The name of the new Swedish Chess Champion is GM Hans Tikkanen! He won the tournament with final result of 6.5 points. With half of a point less on the second place in the final ranking is GM Jonny Hector. The tournament was played in 9 Rounds, according to the FIDE rules. The rate of play was 90 minutes for 40 moves+30 minutes for the rest of the game+30 seconds for each move, starting from move one. The Championship was organized by Vasteras Chess Club, the Chief-Arbiter was Tappio Tikkanen. K factor for players with fewer than 30 rated games is 30 (was 25) Articles 8.26, 8.34 and 8.56. If a player has achieved a partial rating, each subsequent game against rated player is accumulated to the player’s rating (earlier three games in a tournament were needed) Article 8.21. He finished the tournament with personal result of 7.5 points. Kiril Georgiev dominated the tournament as it has always been at the top of the table. The tournament was held on 16-24 July, 2011 in Andorra, Andorra. On the second place is another Polish chess player – GM Dariusz Swiercz who finished with the same score. Six GMs finished the tournament with 6.5 points – Vadim Malakhatko (BEL), Paul Czarnota (POL), Robert Kempinski (POL), Oleg Romanishin (UKR), Vlastimil Babula (JUN), Spartak Vysochin (UKR).
