Cech at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2007. She currently serves as the Associate Director for the Brain Institute at the University of Utah, a pioneering institute devoted to improving the human condition through interdisciplinary neuroscience work. The majority of Dr. Davis’s effort is devoted to preparing proposals for multi-investigator grants and training grants. Her roles include: identifying funding opportunities; communicating with all contributing personnel to obtain required documents; managing secure, online, private workspaces for collaborating investigators to share documents in development; preparing budgets and writing detailed budget justifications; writing all non-scientific portions of proposals; heavy editing of the scientific portions of proposals; drafting letters of support for collaborators; establishing relationships with funding agency contacts so that proposal questions are addressed quickly; ensuring adherence to every requirement of the program announcement; assembling applications for electronic or hardcopy submission; and generally serving as the lead project manager during proposal development, enabling the principal investigator to focus his / her efforts on formulating the research plan.
