Sri Aurobindo College was established in 1972, the birth centenary of the philosopher, patriot-poet, Sri Aurobindo, as a constituent college of the University of Delhi. The College inculcates the ideals of Sri Aurobindo and believes that an active commitment towards excellence is fundamental to the process of education.

The College has seen remarkable growth over the years. The University results have shown a progressive improvement. Continual addition and updation of essential amenities and facilities has made our College a prestigious institution for academic and co-curricular pursuits. Sri Aurobindo College is situated in the heart of South Delhi in Malviya Nagar, in the vicinity of Qutab Minar, Sri Aurobindo Ashram, IIT (Delhi), NCERT and Qutab Institutional Area.

It is walking distance from the Malviya Nagar market and PVR . The College is well connected with the rest of the city by buses and Delhi Metro.

Two supernumerary seat for J&K students The admissions under the above reserved categories shall be made as per the University guidelines and in accordance with the procedure laid down by the University from time to time.

PROCEDURE OF ADMISSION 1. Any student meeting the cut-off percentage, for a subject may seek admission to that course of study, provided he/she has registered with the University by lling the OMR Common form. 2. The aggregate marks to be determined for admission shall include three elective subjects and one language. Students who have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination will be considered for admission. Students seeking admission to this college should invariably be accompanied by their parents/guardians at the time of counseling for admission, and for signing the documents in the presence of the teacher in charge of admission. (Admission to all Courses is provisional subject to confirmation by the University under its rules.) 3. At the time of admission, the applicants shall be required to produce the following documents in original with two sets of self-attested photocopies. (i) Class X Board Examination Certicate. (ii) Class X Mark-sheet. (iii) Class XII Mark-sheet. (iv) Class XII Provisional Certicate/Original Certicate. (v) Character Certicate (recent, not more than three months old). (vi) SC/ST Certicate (in the name of the candidate) – for SC/ST Candidates. (vii) OBC (Non Creamy layer) Certicate in the name of the Candidate-for OBC candidates. The caste should be included in the Central List of OBC. (viii) Transfer Certicate from school/college. (ix) Migration Certicate from the concerned Board/University, for those students who have

6 passed Senior Secondary Examination from outside Delhi, by the date specied by University of Delhi. Failure to do so shall result in cancellation of admission without any further notice. (x) Two passport size self-attested photographs. (xi) Receipt of common pre-admission form (Candidates who fail to submit these documents shall not be considered for admission.)

4. The Students shall ll the Examination forms at the time of admission/Re-admission to a particular course of study for a particular semester / year after payment of the prescribed examination fees. (For example a Student taking admission in part I of a particular course shall ll up seperate examination form for the rst and second semester along with the admission form and so on for the rest of the semester.) 5. Any forgery of signature or documents would lead to dismissal from the College. 6. The College reserves the right to refuse admission to any student without assigning any reason thereof.

ADMISSION LISTS These will be displayed on the Notice Board/College Website for the students short-listed and selected for admission. The students are advised to see the College notice board in this connection as per the admission schedule. Admission shall be strictly on the basis of procedure/guidelines laid down by the University. The candidates are liable to tender themselves ineligible in case of misconduct and misdemeanor.

ADMISSION/RE-ADMISSION RULES Admission and Re-admission Rules shall be applicable as per the University Guidelines.

MIGRATION Application for Migration from another college of the University to Sri Aurobindo College shall be entertained by the Principal only if forwarded by the Principal of the College from which migration is sought. Necessary alteration in the enrolment entries shall only be made in the University Register by the Registrar after obtaining the consent in writing from both Principals. The college reserves the right for grant of Migration.

CHANGE OF SUBJECT/TRANSFER FROM ONE COURSE TO ANOTHER No change of subject/course/medium of instruction will be allowed without the prior permission of the Admission Committee. Permission should be obtained in writing within four weeks of the session, and in no case later than the date specied by the University.

ATTENDANCE The students are required to attend all lectures and tutorials. Tutorials are counted separately for the purpose of attendance. According to the University Rules, the minimum required attendance at lectures and tutorials for all courses is 66%, and in successive academic years separately. No student will be allowed to appear in the University Examination without requisite percentage of attendance.

INTERNAL ASSESSMENT Internal Assessment in various subjects shall be governed by the University Guidelines.

SCHOLARSHIP All eligible SC/ST, OBC, PWD Student who are admitted to the college should submit sochlarship form by February for processing.

9 NOTE: (a) Foreign students are required to pay an amount equivalent to $ 100 US for the academic year 2015-2016 in addition to the registration fee being collected by the University. (b) Fees will be accepted in cash through Canara Bank (College Counter). (c) At the time of admission, the students will be required to pay fees for six months (May to October) along with other annual charges. (d) No student will be permitted to appear in the University Examination unless all dues are paid to the college and a clearance certicate is obtained to this effect.

REFUND OF FEES The refund of fees will be admissible according to the University rules.

REFUND OF SECURITY If a student fails to apply for a refund within three years of the date of his/her leaving the college his/her college & library security shall be forfeited. A deduction will be made from the security money if any part of college property is damaged or lost by the student.

IDENTITY CARD Every student will be issued an Identity Card by the College immediately after admission. He/She is required to carry it with him/her at all times in the College. Entry to the College is permitted strictly on production of Identity Card at the main gate. It must also be produced on demand by any member of the staff at any time in the College. Duplicate Identity Cards may be issued in the event of loss/damage/overwriting/mutilation, subject to proper explanation to the satisfaction of the College authorities and on payment of a penalty of Rs. 50 /- for each replacement.

The student will be required to inform the college ofce immediately about any change in their address for communication failing which their I cards will be cancelled.

SCHOLARSHIPS/FEE CONCESSION/STUDENTS AID FUND ETC. These concessions are available to those in need of nancial help or those who exhibit academic merit. The College reserves the right to withdraw such concession if and when a student is found either irregular in attendance or laggard in studies. The college also maintains 'Students Aid Fund' to provide aid and incentives to needy students by way of scholarship or by award of books etc. The college is likely to constitute two merit-cum-means scholarships for a period of one year. The scholarship is renewable every year depending on the academic performance of the recipient. A decision is being taken to institute an award for the all-round best student who excels both in academics and extra curricular activities. The eligible SC/ST, OBC, PWD Students will be required to submit then scholarship forms for the academic year by February.

EXAMINATION SCHOLARSHIP For 1st year Honours Course students, Delhi University conducts an All Entrance Scholarship Examination in October every year for the award of 50 scholarships each with a value of Rs. 250/- per month. The competition is open to the students who have passed Senior Certicate Exam. (10 + 2) with an aggregate of 55% marks. Date for the receipt of application from eligible candidates, with examination fee of Rs. 50/- is 1st September every year. Other details can be obtained from the Examination Branch VII(I) (Main University Campus) Room No. 6 on any working day between 9.30 am to 12.30 pm after 1st August each year.

10 THE COLLEGE MAGAZINE The College brings out a Magazine named 'vjfoUn T;ksfr'. The magazine provides an opportunity to the staff and students for self expression and creative writing. It is the mirror which reects the curricular and extra-curricular talents of staff and students.

ANTI SMOKING NODAL OFFICERS The college has been declared a no smoking zone. The anti smoking nodal ofcers have been appointed by the college.

MEDICAL CHECK-UP AND FOLLOW-UP Every student has to undergo a thorough annual medical check-up done by the Visiting Doctor of the college. The College maintains First Aid facilities also.

ACADEMIC/EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Our teaching faculty consists of highly qualied and experienced teachers. Many of them have distinguished themselves in various elds. Our students have done remarkably well in the academic elds of various disciplines. Our Science Departments are the leading departments in Delhi University. Students have been doing well under the able guidance of our teachers.

SPORTS The various sports teams of the College have displayed consistently noteworthy performance in the past. The credit for the same goes collectively to the dedicated efforts of Sports Committee, Coaches and the commitment and regularity of practice by the players.

NATIONAL CADET CORPS The College NCC battalion of budding patriots is ably commanded by NCC ofcer Dr. Ashwini Kumar. The NCC cadets, during the last year have participated in many state and national level camps and shown excellent results in 'B' & 'C' Certicate examinations.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME The College has three units of NSS. The students under the inspiration of Programme Ofcers have rendered useful social service by participating in programmes like community upliftment services and Blood Donation camps etc. COLLEGE TIMINGS Classes begin at 8.45 am.

OFFICE HOURS Student dealing is transacted between 9:30 am to 1.00 pm and 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm on all working days. The college ofce is open from Monday to Friday.

11 STUDENT UNION The Student Union is the focal point of students' activities in the College. Its membership is compulsory for all the students of the College. Its objective is to foster intellectual and cultural development of the students and to train them in the methods of democratic institutions .

MAINTENANCE OF DISCIPLINE AMONG STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY Students must maintain exemplary discipline both inside and outside the College. Indiscipline in the College premises will be dealt with severe punishment.  Delhi University is partnering with Delhi Police and World Lung Foundation South Asia in promoting a Tobacco free environment. As a step in that direction, smoking is banned in Sri Aurobindo College .  Students must not be found making noise in or outside the class rooms and corridors. They should keep the campus clean and throw all garbage in the dustbins provided for this purpose .  There is no parking facility available in the College premises for students' vehicles .  Students should conduct themselves in a dignied manner. They should not use abusive language against anyone in the College. Consumption of liquor/drugs is strictly prohibited in the College premises. Students must treat the College as their second home. They must maintain discipline and build up healthy conventions and traditions. 1. Without prejudice to the generality of power to enforce discipline, the following shall amount to acts of gross indiscipline: (a) Physical assault, or threat to use physical force, against any member of the teaching and non- teaching staff of any Institution/Department and against any student within the University of Delhi; (b) Carrying of, use of, or threat of use of any weapons; (c) Any violation of the provisions of the Civil Rights Protection Act 1976. (d) Violation of the status, dignity and honour of students belonging to the scheduled castes and tribes; (e) Any practice-whether verbal or otherwise-derogatory of women; (j) Any attempt at bribing or corruption in any manner; (g) Wilful destruction of institutional property; (h) Creating ill-will or intolerance on religious or communal grounds. (i) Causing disruption in any manner of the academic functioning of the University system. (j) Ragging as per ordinance XV -C. 2. Without prejudice to the generality of his/her powers relating to the maintenance of discipline and taking such action in the interest of maintaining discipline as may seem to him/her action appropriate, the Principal, may exercise his/her powers aforesaid by order or direct. (a) That any student or students be expelled; or (b) Any student or students be for a stated period, rusticated; or (c) Be not for a stated period, admitted to a course or courses of study in a college department or institution of the University; or (d) Be ned with a sum of rupees that may be specied; or (e) Be debarred from taking a University or College or Departmental Examination in which he/she or they have appeared or cancelled. 3. The Principal of the Colleges, Heads of the Halls, Deans of Faculties, Head of Teaching Departments in the University, the Principal, School of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education and Librarian shall have the authority to exercise all such, disciplinary powers over students in their respective college, institutions,

12 facilities and teaching departments in the University as may be necessary for the proper conduct of the institution, halls and teaching in the concerned department. They may exercise their authority through delegating authority to the teachers in their college, institutions or departments as they may specify for this purpose. 6. Without prejudice to the powers of the Vice Chancellor and the Proctor as aforesaid detailed rules of discipline and proper conduct shall be framed. These rules may be supplemented, where necessary, by the Principals of Colleges, Deans of Faculties and Heads of Teaching Departments in this University. Each student shall be expected to provide himself/herself with a copy of these rules. 7. At the time of admission, every student shall be required to sign a declaration that on admission he/she submits himself/herself to the disciplinary jurisdiction of the Vice-Chancellor and the University who may be vested with the authority to exercise discipline under the Acts, the Statutes, the Ordinances and the rules that have been framed by the University.

PROHIBITION OF AND PUNISHMENT FOR RAGGING 1. Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited. 2. Any individual or collective act or practice of ragging constitutes gross indiscipline and shall be dealt with under the Ordinance. 3. Ragging for purposes of this Ordinance ordinarily means any act, a conduct or practice by which dominance, power or status of senior students is brought to bear on students freshly enrolled or students who are in any way considered junior or inferior by other students and includes individual or collective acts or practices which. (a) Include physical assault or threat or use of physical force; (b) Violate the status, dignity and honour of women students; (c) Violate the status, dignity and honour of students belonging to the scheduled castes and tribes. (d) Expose students to ridicule and contempt and affect their self-esteem; (e) Entail verbal abuse and aggression, indecent gesture and obscene behaviour. 4. The Principal of a College, shall take immediate action on any information of the occurrence of ragging. 5. Not with standing anything in clause (4) above, the Principal/Convener Discipline Committee may also suo moto enquire into any incident of ragging and the nature of the incident. 6. The Principal/Convener Discipline Committee may also submit initial report establishing the identity of the perpetrators of ragging and the nature of the ragging incident. 7. If the Principal of the college / Convener Discipline Committee is satised that for some reason to be recorded in writing, it is not reasonably practical to hold such an enquiry, he/she may so advise the Vice-Chancellor accordingly. 8. When the Vice-Chancellor is satised that it is not expedient to hold such an enquiry, his/her decision shall be nal. 9. On the receipt of a report under clause (5) OR (6) or a determination by the relevant authority under clause (7) disclosing the occurrence of ragging incidents described in clause 3 (a), (b) and (c), the Principal shall direct or order rustication of a student or students for specic number of years. 10. In case the students who have obtained degrees or diplomas of Delhi University are found under this Ordinance, an appropriate action will be taken against them under Status 15 for withdrawal of degree or diploma conferred by the University. 11. All institutions within the Delhi University system shall be obligated to carry out instructions/ directions issued under this Ordinance and to give aid and assistance to the Vice-Chancellor to achieve the effective implementation of the Ordinance.

13 UNDERTAKING FOR ANTI RAGGING As per the Hon'ble Supreme Court and UGC I AICTE regulations all students have to submit an anti-ragging undertaking.

INTERNAL COMPLAINT COMMITTEE The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (Ministry of Law and justice) An Act to provide protection against sexual harassment of women at workplace and for the prevention and redressal of complaints of sexual harassment and for matters connected there with incidental thereto. Where as sexual harassment results in violation of the fundamental rights of a woman to equality under articles 14 and 15 of the Constitution of India and her right to life and to live with dignity under article 21 of the Constitution and right to practice any profession or to carry on any occupation, trade or business which includes a right to a safe environment free from sexual harassment; and where as the protection against sexual harassment and the right to work with dignity are universally recognized human right by international conventions and instruments such as convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against Women, which has been ratied on the 25th june, 1993 by the Government of India. The college has constituted an internal complaint committee which would work in accordance with the rules and guidance provided by the university of Delhi.

LIBRARY AND READING ROOM Sri Aurobindo College has a fully computerised library. To help students reach the pinnacle of excellence we have a wide range of books for the students in various disciplines. At present there are more than 53,832 books in the library. The reading room provides newspapers, magazines, journals and periodicals. The Library also operates a Book Bank Scheme. Students should make it a point to study the library rules and regulations carefully. Under no circumstances must the student tamper, tear the leaves from any book/periodical of the College library. Silence must be observed in the vicinity.

Laboratory Facility

14 The College has well developed laboratories in science departments. Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany and Electronics laboratories are very well equipped with latest instruments and apparatus.

Computer Laboratory With the introduction of revised and restructured courses in various disciplines and use of computers in various science and arts subjects, the College has set up a computer laboratory with centralised internet facility. The computer lab besides being used by the students to study their course work can also be used to enhance and develop their knowledge in various spheres of education.

Placement Cell The Placement cell has been constituted in the College to coordinate with various companies for placement of students. Companies like Wipro and Airtel approached the college and a few nal year students belonging to different courses have been able to nd placement even before completing their graduation. Cultural Activities The college cultural group today has carved an identity for itself in the University cultural arena. The college today has eight registered societies MOKSH(Drama), CRUNK(Western Dance), BANDWAGONS(Fashion), TALEEM ( Music), ALLEGRO(Western), SAGE(Literary), 3Ps(Painting, Poster& Photography) and SALVATION (Environment). These societies under the able guidance of the faculty coordinators help students to perform and participate in various inter college and intra college events. The college organizes an annual Talent Hunt competition in early September to tap the fresh talent in the college. Students repeatedly bring laurels to the college by their excellent performance in all major Inter and Intra college competitions /festivals.“Mehak” the Annual College Cultural Festival is an eagerly awaited two day event.We have enthusiastic participation in all the categories of competitions. SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) is a voluntary movement that organizes events (over 5000 annually) of classical music and dance, folk arts, crafts etc. This society has been taking Indian Classical music, dance, theater, yoga, and folk arts to schools and colleges across the country for more than three decades. They introduce the young students to several upcoming as well as senior renowned artists, giving them an opportunity to witness their insightful performances. Such enriching interactions help the students in developing a wholesome understanding of our rich heritage of art and culture and we are proud to be associated with this prestigious society.
