Yoneshige, Program Coordinator SUMMER INTERSESSION PROGRAM Maryknoll School is pleased to announce the offerings of our summer intersession program. This program covers the interim period between the end of the summer school session until the beginning of the new school year. Program dates, times and age range of participants vary per program. Please read the program descriptions below for more information. Camp registration and additional information can be found at activelearningcamps.com. REGISTRATION To register for any of the Summer Intersession Programs, please complete the 2018 Summer Intersession registration form. Please complete a separate form for each student (photo copies of registration forms are acceptable). Students should register for the grade in which they will enter in the Fall of 2018. Send the completed registration form and full tuition payment to: Maryknoll School Office of Special Programs 1526 Alexander Street Honolulu, Hawaii 96822 Only cash/checks are acceptable forms of payment (NO credit cards, money orders). Please make checks payable to Maryknoll School. REGISTRATION DEADLINE Deadline for registration for all Summer Intersession Programs is May 4, 2018. Early registration is recommended as these programs fill quickly. Late Registration Students who register after May 4, 2018, will be charged a late fee of $35.00 per student, and will be registered on a space available basis only. Withdrawal For students who withdraw on or before May 4, 2018, $200.00 per program, per student is non-refundable. No tuition refund will be given for withdrawal after May 4, 2018. HIGH SCHOOL 2 COURSE DESCRIPTIONS USA CHESS CAMP Grades: 8-16 Dates: July 23-July 27 Cost: See online Time: See online This summer, USA Chess is offering a fun and entertaining chess camp at Maryknoll School. Children ages 5-15, from beginner to advanced are welcome! USA Chess is the largest chess camp organizer for children in the United States. Their staff is comprised of the finest children’s chess instructors in North America. Campers will experience chess instruction and play in a fun-filled environment designed to improve their skills whether they are interested in casual or competitive chess. Registration options include: mornings, afternoons and an all-day session. Tuition includes camp t-shirt, chessboard and pieces, trophy, certificate of achievement with camp photo, chess notation book and work folder. MODDING, NETWORKING AND HOSTING WITH MINECRAFT Ages: 8-16 Dates: July 23-July 27 Cost: See online Time: See online Minecraft is hugely popular because it’s collaborative, open- ended and moddable. Our program preserves those qualities and adds a large dose of fun! The week begins with learning the game, controls, recipes and a bit about hosting and networking. Next campers are connecting to different worlds hosted on our secure server and experimenting with character skins, mods and custom maps. By day three the kids are building in the Active Learning World that grows over time. Whether adding a room, building a moat or even creating a chessboard the possibilities are nearly limitless. This is a half-day program. Students can add an additional program to make it a full day camp. Please visit their website at activelearningcamps.com to register for the camp or for further details. 3 KUDO VIDEO GAME CREATION-ADVENTURE Ages: 8-16 Dates: July 23-July 27 Cost: See online Time: See online Children will have the option of learning how to program using a Microsoft Xbox controller! Students will create their own cool custom world and navigate through it. Within this world they will create tasks that need to be completed in order to progress to the next level. Some of those tasks include escaping a sewer maze, survival mode, outwitting rivals, creating decoys and collecting bonus items all while having fun! This is a half-day camp. Xbox controller is optional and supplied by the student. Students can add an additional program to make it a full day. VIDEO GAME CREATION: PLATFORM STYLE (SONIC AND MARIO) Ages: 8-16 Dates: July 23-July 27 Cost: See online Time: See online In this camp children build a game described as a "platform" game like Sonic or Mario. Children have a blast as their characters do the impossible, overcome obstacles and opponents and then conquer the Big Boss. The character progresses on a long path (like a journey) with the background scrolling behind it and adversaries, prizes, obstacles, are encountered as it goes. Lessons on the basics will be similar to the Arcade course in the very beginning, but the class diverges and different programming techniques are taught in order to build this Platform game. SUMMER INTERCESSION 42 END OF SUMMER BASH Grades: K-6 Dates: July 16-August 1 Cost: $900 Time: 7:30a.m.-5:30p.m. Our End of Summer Bash is a summer fun, non-academic, all-day care program. Daily activities include cooking, arts and crafts, sports and games and more! Program costs include all activities, an afternoon snack and all weekly excursion fees. EXPRESSIONS CAMP Grades: 2-5 Dates: July 23-July 27 Cost: $300 Time: 8:00a.m.-11:45a.m. Use your summer months to express yourself! Campers will use their creative minds in a combination of art and creative movement classes. Tap your imagination while creating unique works of art in a variety of mediums. Drawing, painting, printmaking, paper mache’, ceramics and more! Follow your art creations with some creative movement and introduction to some basic dance skills! EXPLORE ART CAMP Grades: 6-11 Dates: July 23-July 27 Cost: $350 Time: 10:30a.m.-3:00p.m. Our Explore Art camp provides opportunities for your creative art expressions! Explore art three-dimensionally, creating sculptures out of a variety of mediums, including clay, paper mache’ and more! Learn the “ins and outs” of drawing, printing and design. Create a variety of artwork while expanding your creative side! 35 DRONE BOOT CAMP Grades: 5-9 Dates: July 16-July 27 Cost: $600 Time: 8:00a.m.-12:00p.m. Interested in flying a drone? A new video production company,(Koleagold) owned and operated by Maryknoll alumni, are searching for students interested in cinematic drone operations. This boot camp will include an introduction to drone operations for aerial cinematography, remote pilot certifications, and drone maintenance. Enrolling in this camp, will allow campers an opportunity to become Hawaii’s leading drone pilots, capable of providing excellent drone operations. *Completion of this camp will make you eligible for a possible internship with Koleagold LLC SPARTAN BASKETBALL CAMP Grades: 4-8 Dates: July 18-July 20 Cost: $150 Time: 9:00a.m.-12:00p.m. Spartan basketball is on the rise! Join our Spartan coaching staff this summer to enhance your basketball skills. This camp is open to both boys and girls, of all basketball levels. Campers will work on fundamental skills, as well as advanced drills, and team play. SUMMER INTERCESSION 64 S.T.E.M. ADVENTURE CAMPS Grades: K-3 Dates: July 16-July 27 Cost: Varies (see below) Time: 8:00a.m.-12:00p.m. $350 (per camp/week; no child care provided) $600 (per camp/week; includes child care until 5:30 p.m.) $700 (both camps; no child care provided) $1,200 (both camps, includes two weeks of child care) Welcome to the new, exciting world of S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). Our two, one-week camps, run by Bricks4Kidz will provide every student with exciting, new, and fun “hands-on” activities… daily take home crafts, based on a different theme each week of camp! (Enroll for one or two camps!) Childcare after camp (12:00-5:30) is also available for an additional charge. Daily snack and drink provided for all camps. Each camper will also receive a mini-figure that they will use daily and then get to take home at the end of the week. SUPER HERO ACADEMY Grades: K-3 Dates: July 16-July 20 Cost: $350 Time: 8:00a.m.-12:00p.m. Join Bricks4kidz for a week building Super Heroes with LEGO bricks.
