Desuri Dossier A4.Qxp:Mise En Page 1 RAJMATA KRISHNA KUMARIJI GIRL’S HOSTEL FORT DESURI DISTRICT PALI (Rajasthan) Aim with which the Hostel was started:- 1. The Hostel was started with the aim to encourage girls education in the rural areas, particularly in financially weaker families where the girls education is negligible. 2. H.H. Maharaja Sahib of Jodhpur was requested to provide accommodation for the girls and the staff in his fort palace at Desuri H.H. very kindly agreed to this proposal. 3. H.H. Maharaja Sahib of Jodhpur agreed and gave the assurance that he would bear all the expenses through his trust regarding the expenses for all alteration and addition of the building and also bear the water and electricity expenses. The rest of the expenses were to be managed either by donation or from fees recovered from the girls students. Brief Introduction: Desuri Fort is a private property of Maharaja Gajsinghji, Jodhpur. He has given on lease to H.H. Maharaja Hanwant Singhji Charitable Trust on a token rent of Rs. 21/- per annum, for the girls education to use as hostel, as Maharaja Gajsinghji himself is very keen to promote the girls education in our part of Rajasthan. The Trustees of H.H. Maharaja Hanwant Singhji Cheritable Trust are – (1) H.H. Maharaja Gajsingh Singhji Sahib, (2) Her Highness Maharani Hemlata Rajye Sahiba (3) Shri R.K. Martand Singh (4) Shri Lekh Raj Mehta, Senior Advocate (5) Shri Sharad Chand Bhandari The Trustees entrusts the day to day working to the Management Committee which is chaired by Thakur Sunder Singh. A few members are voluntarily helping in managing Rajmata Krishna Kumariji Girl’s Hostel, Desuri. Management:- It was decided that to run the Hostel a management committee comprising of members from H.H. Maharaja Hanwant Singhji Charitable Trust and Shri. Rajput Mahil Shikshan Samiti, educationist and mahila members to be headed by a Chairman should be formed. The committee would lay down the rules and regulations to be followed by the appointed staff of the Hostel, girls students and parents/guardians of the girls. The committee would meet as and when required and review the progress and other matters from time to time. The Hostel was started in the academic year 1987 – 88 i.e. on 7th August 1987 with a strength of 9 (Nine) girls only. Two members of Shri. Rajput Mahila Shikshan Samiti went around the rural area in Pali and near by districts in their own vehicle and at their own cost. Many families were contacted but only 7 of them agreed to send their girls to the Hostel and later on 2 more girls were also admitted and thus Hostel was started with 9 girls only. The following table presents the progressive strength of girls of the Hostel:- Sr. No. Session Strength Remarks 1 1987-88 9 2 1988-89 10 3 1989-90 17 4 1990-91 32 5 1991-92 48 6 1992-93 56 7 1993-94 82 8 1994-95 87 9 1995-96 105 10 1996-97 108 11 1997-98 125 12 1998-99 140 13 1999-2000 159 14 20001-01 160 15 2001-02 165 16 2002-03 146 17 2003-04 173 18 2004-05 170 19 2005-06 175 20 2006-07 176 21 2007-08 182 22 2008-09 180 The Hostel was started with a dedicated staff.
