The eight members of the Board are all active farmers, who serve without compensation. They meet at least once each month in Trenton with the Secretary of Agriculture and often with other officials of the Department. During the 1956-57 fiscal year, 18 meetings of the Board were held. Terms of Board members are staggered and two new members are appointed each year. They are chosen by official delegates to the annual State Agricultural Convention for recommendation to the Governor for appointment. The law provides for 84 official delegates, who represent the county boards of agriculture, Pomona granges, and State breed and commodity organizations.
