It has gone from strength to strength and, with a grant from the Andrew Lloyd Weber Foundation, has continued to make orchestral music accessible and affordable, and more importantly fun, for local musicians. Our members range from year 3 (age 7) who have only been playing a term, to experienced semi-professionals, to pensioners and everything in between. It has been lovely to see people taking up an instrument in later life, and adults returning to music after a lapse of sometimes decades. For many years the donation to individuals was in the form of Christmas coal for all Burgh pensioners but when coal went out of fashion the money was used to pay TV licences instead. We welcomed a new Gsenior section in the autumn. This unit caters for girls ages between 14 and 18 and they meet every fortnight from 7 to 8.45pm at Grundisburgh School. The programme is completely girl led, promoting independence and leadership. Since starting the unit the girls have to planned, cooked and served a healthy two course meal for the Guiding leaders - which was very much appreciated by us!
