Bookies Quick to Back the Hayemaker in 'Battle of Britain' Bookies Quick to Back The Hayemaker in ‘Battle of Britain’ Submitted by: Gaming Supermarket Tuesday, 7 September 2010 Bookmakers are predicting a knock-out performance from David Haye after he announced that he will be going toe-to-toe with Audley Harrison in the biggest ‘Battle of Britain’ since Lewis v Bruno in 1993. The ‘Hayemaker’ will face Harrison in the second defence of his WBA Heavyweight title at Manchester’s MEN Arena on November 13 and Gaming Supermarket (http://www.gamingsupermarket.com) has found that the betting markets are already expecting a big performance from the 29-year-old. The draw is at 40/1 generally. Haye’s current record stands at 24 wins and one loss whilst 38-year-old Harrison, who shot to fame by winning the Olympic Gold Medal in 2000, boasts a 27-4 record. In his last fight, Haye became only the second man to stop American John Ruiz whilst Harrison won last year’s Prizefighter tournament. It aims to provide an explanation of the relationship between boxing, its embodied practices and local routine performance and the economic culture which makes it possible and drives the sport along particular trajectories. This chapter starts with the dialogue between the economic demands of globalized sport and the links between the economic context and local practices and investments in the sport. The media are a focus in this chapter because of their powerful involvement in the making of the cultural economy of boxing. The chapter uses examples of the representation of boxing and the making of its celebrities and heroes in shaping its cultural economy as well as the particularities of boxing and its capacities for change, for example through its localized practices and the continuance of amateur boxing. Dale Youth Amateur Boxing Club - Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea The ‘Dale’ have been resident in their new facility in Grenfell Tower for only 11 months before the tragic fire took hold last summer, the club lost everything in the disaster. Having helped the club originally access and fund the facility and equipment Powerday immediately once again came to the clubs assistance and found a temporary home for the club in close proximity to Grenfell Tower to continue their work and commitment to the local community, who had been sadly affected. Powerday is currently leading the negotiations for the new base to be confirmed and delivered with other partners in the very near future and are committed to seeing the club re- housed and in sustainable facilities for the long term, to produce more World and Olympic Champions such as George Groves and James Degale and grow the health and well-being opportunities across the Borough and beyond.
