I am truly humbled to be the one to welcome you to your new home. Be ready to challenge yourself academically. USD has some of the best professors around and they’re all here to help you become the best you can be. Be sure to build relationships with the staff here and utilize the resources offered to students to ensure your success! This handbook is a small insight to the many opportunities USD has to offer each and every one of you as well as policies and procedures that will impact your day-to-day life here. Take some time to look it over and see all that USD has to offer. While you are here for a degree, it's important to look for opportunities to broaden your horizons outside the classroom. Between study abroad, research, and over 120 student organizations ranging from service-learning to pre-professional, from interest groups to random hobbies, you’re sure to find something that fits your interests. To top it all off, athletic events are always a great way to get out and have some fun while cheering our fellow Coyotes on to victory. Each student that comes to USD makes an impact on the Coyote legacy, and each student brings a new perspective. This is a community you’ll never forget and a home you’ll always have. As your student body President, it is my job to be a valuable resource to you. As the governing body of the students, SGA is here to serve you as best we can and to do that we need everyone on board. The beginning of a new academic year is an exciting time in higher education and this is a great time to be a Coyote. The mission for Student Services is to provide diverse educational and social opportunities as well as guidance for students to learn and develop skills to be successful in a global society. Our vision is to empower students by providing dynamic experiences that promote excellence and assist students in reaching their goals, while developing a sense of purpose, tradition and community at USD. I invite and encourage you to participate in activities and organizations available through Student Services as research demonstrates that students who are involved in their collegiate career are more likely to be successful. Visitors can pick up a map at the Macomb Area Chamber of Commerce and other locations to follow the “dog walk” to view the Rocky sculptures. On Oct. 3, at the annual WIU Alumni Association’s Town and Gown Celebration, 12 Rocky sculptures will be debuted, along with their sponsors, and located throughout the City of Macomb and WIU campus, as part of the inaugural Rocky on Parade project sponsored by the WIU Department of Art. Rock III, and Ken ’46 MS-Ed ’52 and Lorraine Epperson Using a design similar to WIU’s iconic Rocky sculpture, ’48 MS-Ed ’52. Artists—and their designs—will be selected located near Hanson Field, 12 bulldogs will be cast by the sponsors in April.
