1. Introduction This USB2.0 OTG 2.5” hard disk enclosure provides an easy way to back-up your photos of DSC, business data and MP3 music files to Hard Disk. And with its Dual Role feature, you also can download or exchange files from PC.

This enclosure works with devices that support USB Mass Storage Specification.

7 Replace battery 7.1 Follow the steps below to replace the battery. 7.2 Release the screws and open the bottom cover. (Figure 1 ~ 2)

8 Setting up to back up or exchanging file 8-1 Back up files from DSC, Pen drive, Card Reader, etc.

8.1.1 Install Hard Disk and Battery to Enclosure Please refer to section of “Hard disk Installation” to install Hard Disk and Battery to Enclosure. Before plug in Battery jack, please make sure the “Power” switch is at “Off” position.

8.1.2 Charge the battery Connect power adapter to this Hard Disk Enclosure and then “Charge” light will flash. After finish charging, “Charge” light will turn off. When “Battery Low” light turns on and flashing, it means this Hard Disk Enclosure has run out of battery. Please charge battery at once, unless it will do harm to your battery for over discharging. After “Battery Low” light flashing and still work on file copying, then the power will be cut off by Hard Disk. In this situation, the copying may not success and certain files will be missed.

8.1.3 Turn On Power Slide “Power” switch to “On” position, the “Power/Access” light will turn on with “Red” color.

8.1.4 Hard Disk checking If the Hard Disk is brand new and not been formatted & partition then you have to connect to PC and follow “Troubleshooting” of the following paragraph.

8.1.5 Attached Enclosure with a Mass Storage Base device The device could be DSC, Pen drive, Card Reader or others device with USB Mass Storage Specification. Connect device with USB 2.0 OTG Hard Disk Enclosure via mini A-B cable.

8.1.6 Copy files Press “Copy” button to copy files from device to Hard Disk, when coping the “Power/Access” light will flash with “Green” color. When coping, if Hard Disk is full then “Error/Disk Full“ light will turn on with “Green” color. After finish coping, “Power/Access” light will stay with “Red” color and all files that have been copied to Hard Disk will be named from “DSK00000” sequentially. Before copying, if “Error/Disk Full” light is flashing with “Red” color, then it means that the device is not Mass Storage device. When copying, if “Error/Disk Full” light is flashing with “Red” color and “Battery low” light is flashing then it means you are running out of battery.

8.2 Exchanging files with PC or Mac Connect the “D” connector of the Enclosure with PC, then “Busy/Ready Write” light will turn on with “Orange” color.

8.2.1 Windows® 98 Installation

8.2.1.1 Connect the USB port of USB2.0 OTG 2.5” hard disk enclosure to PC with USB cable. 8.2.1.2 The “Add New Hardware Wizard” dialog box will appears as below, click “Next” to continue.

8.2.1.3 Choose “Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended)” then click “Next”.

8.2.1.4 Select “Specify a location” and type “D:\DRIVER\USB2.0 OTG 2.5 INCH HARD DISK ENCLOSURE” (D: represents CD-ROM) in the dialog box, then click “Next”

8.2.1.5 Choose “The updated driver (Recommended) M5637, USB (OTG) Storage Device” then click “Next”.

8.2.1.6 Windows® will search the driver for this device. Make sure the driver that Windows® found is “D:\DRIVER\USB2.0 OTG 2.5 INCH HARD DISK ENCLOSURE\UMSTOR.INF” then click “Next”.

8.2.1.7 Click “Finish” to complete the installation procedure of “M5637, USB (OTG) Storage Device”

8.2.1.8 If the driver has been successfully installed then double click on “My Computer”, there will have a new device and name of “(E:)” at desktop as shown below.

8.2.1.9 After Windows® installed all the driver, you have to check “My Computer”-“Control Panel”-“System”-”Device Manager” to make sure the driver has already installed. Then, in the “Disk Drives” it will show a “USB 2.0 Storage Device”, in the “Hard disk controllers” it will show a new item of “USB Mass Storage Device”

8.2.2 Windows® 98 un-installation

8.2.2.1 Click on “Add/Remove Programs” of “Control Panel” to un-install it. The “Add/Remove Program Properties” dialog show as below. Select “USB Storage Toolbox” and click on “Add/Remove” then click “OK” to continue.

8.2.2.2 Click “OK” to confirm un-installation.

8.2.2.3 Click on “Yes , I want to restart my computer now” to restart computer and complete uninstall procedure.

8.2.3 Troubleshooting

If the Hard Disk (brand new HD) didn't show in “My Computer” after the driver is being successfully installed, please go to “MS-DOS Prompt”, FDISK and FORMAT the new hard disk. (Please refer to MS-DOS instruction.)

8.2.4 Windows® ME installation It doesn’t need to install any extra driver at Windows® ME

Connect the USB port of USB2.0 OTG 2.5” hard disk enclosure to PC with USB cable. System will auto detect the device and load the driver then create a new device at desktop.

8.2.5 Troubleshooting After the driver be successfully installed, but the hard disk does not shown at “My Computer”. If it is a brand new hard disk, please go to “MS-DOS Prompt” and FDISK, FORMAT new hard disk. (Please refer to MS-DOS instruction)

8.2.6 Windows® 2000 installation It doesn’t need to install any extra driver at Windows® 2000

Connect the USB port of USB2.0 OTG 2.5” hard disk enclosure to PC with USB cable. System will auto detect the device and load the driver then create a new device at desktop.

8.2.7 Troubleshooting 8.2.7.1 After you have successfully installed the driver, but there is no new hard disk shown at “My Computer”.

8.2.7.2 If it is a brand new hard disk, please go to “Control Panel”-“Administrative Tools”-“Computer Management”-“Disk Management” and then choose the new HD. Then follow the step to FDISK and FORMAT this new hard disk.

8.2.8 Windows® XP installation It doesn’t need to install any extra driver at Windows® XP

Connect the USB port of USB2.0 OTG 2.5” hard disk enclosure to PC with USB cable. System will auto detect the device and load driver then create a new device.

8.2.9 Troubleshooting If you have successfully installed the driver, but can’t see the new hard disk on “My Computer “, please check the following points. Go to the “Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer” “Management-Disk Management”, and then choose the new HD. Then following the steps to FDISK and FORMAT the hard disk.

8.2.10 MAC OS 9 installation

8.2.10.1 Turn on your Apple computer and make sure that the USB port is enabled and work properly. 8.2.10.2 Plug the USB2.0 OTG 2.5” hard disk enclosure to your MAC, the system will auto convert the HDD to the PC Exchange format. 8.2.10.3 After the step, you can see the “NEW VOLUME” icon appear on the desktop.

8.2.10.4 To make sure the USB2.0 OTG 2.5” hard disk enclosure can works properly, you have to check the “Apple System Profiler”-“Devices and volumes”, you can see two items under the USB item

8.2.11 MAC OS X installation

8.2.11.1 Turn on your Apple computer and make sure that the USB port is enabled and work properly. 8.2.11.2 Plug the USB2.0 OTG 2.5” hard disk enclosure to your MAC, the system will auto convert the HDD to the Macintosh PC Exchange format. 8.2.11.3 After the step, you can see the “NEW VOLUME” icon appear on the desktop

8.2.11.4 To make sure the USB2.0 OTG 2.5” hard disk enclosure can works properly, you have to check the “Apple System Profiler”-“Devices and volumes”, you can see two items under the USB item

9 Procedure of In-System-Programming (ISP) The following step is to update software of this enclosure for device compatibility problem. NOTE: This function only can run in the Windows 2000 and XP system. 9.1 Double click on “EndUser.exe” of “D:\DRIVER\USB2.0 OTG 2.5 INCH HARD DISK ENCLOSURE\ISP” (D: represents CD-ROM) to update software of this Enclosure.

9.2 Click on “Download” to update the software.

9.3 Downloading is in progress.

9.4 Click “OK” to end the ISP procedure.

10 FAQ Q : After driver installed, there is no new hard disk model name show at “Disk Drivers” of “Device Manager” or “Universal Serial controllers” does not have “USB Mass Storage Device” appear. A: Adjust jumper of hard disk to “Cable Select” or other setting and try again.

Q : If a brand new hard disk has been installed at enclosure. It shows “USB Mass Storage Device” in “Universal Serial Bus controllers” , but there is not any new hard disk at “Disk drivers”. A : Please FDISK and FORMAT hard disk.

Q : When transferring file and system hang-up. A : Set “Never” at “Turn Off hard disk” of “Power Management” of “Device Manager”.
