My name is Matthew McDermut and I will be directing the Premier League during WUMUNS 2018. I grew up in Tenafly, New Jersey, a town not far from New York City. I am currently in my junior year at Washington University, where I am studying psychology within the pre-med track. This is my third year involved in Model UN at college and my first time directing. Ever since I was a kid I have been a huge soccer fan; I’ve often dreamed of coaching a real Premier League team someday. I cannot wait to see how this committee plays out. In this committee, each of you will be taking the helm of an English Football team at the beginning of the 2018-2019 season. Your mission is simple: climb to the top of the world’s most prestigious football league, managing cutthroat competition on and off the pitch, all while debating pressing topics that face the Premier League today. Some of the main issues you will be discussing are player and fan safety, competition with the world’s other top leagues, new rules and regulations, and many more. The LAA has been updated annually and is based on the Plan Area for the East Sussex, South Downs and Brighton & Hove Waste & Minerals Plan which was adopted in February 2013. This document represents the fourth LAA for the mineral planning authorities of East Sussex County Council, Brighton & Hove City Council and the South Downs National Park Authority and examines updates to the position on aggregates supply and demand since the time of last reporting in 2015. The first three LAAs concluded that a significant proportion of local consumption was derived from either marine dredged material, crushed rock or land won aggregates extracted from outside the Plan Area. -

Introduction Ealing Council proudly continues to support and develop its cycling initiative on its roads and open spaces. Ealing has demonstrated its commitment to cycling by continuing to increase its investment and delivering award winning cycling schemes. Our goal has always been simple: to encourage cycling as a normal part of everyday life, where every cyclist can feel safe and comfortable on the road. We have worked hard targeting all areas of the borough to promote mass participation, regardless of demographics and we have seen the number of cyclists in our borough grow year on year. Here are our some of the major achievements in the past year: 1. Securing a Transport for London (TfL) award of £150,000 to further develop our Mini Holland proposals for Ealing Town Centre. 2. The completion of London’s first ever Danish style cycle friendly roundabout in Acton 3. A successful comprehensive cycle/lorry collision trial leading to the roll out of the system on all of our fleet. 4. A three mile upgrade of towpath, providing a new off-road cycle route in Southall 5. Completion of the North Acton Cycle Hub This report provides an overview of the status of cycling in Ealing. -

CYCLING IN LONDON A report by Jenny Jones Green Party Assembly Member January 2012 (This report sets out my individual views as an Assembly Member and not the agreed views of the full Assembly) Introduction Cycling is one of the healthiest and greenest ways to get around London. More and more people are choosing to travel by bike as an attractive alternative to the car or public transport. Since 2000 the number of cyclists on the capital’s major roads has more than doubledi. But Outer London residents only make around 166,600 cycling trips each weekday, while inner London residents make 214,600 tripsii. Figure 1: Map of Inner and Outer London boroughsiii The Mayor’s focus has been on two large scale schemes: the Central London cycle hire and the largely Inner London Cycle Superhighways. Unfortunately the cycling basics have too often been ignored. As a result there are significant problems across London that prevent or discourage people from cycling. This report describes these common issues, along with specific examples provided by individual cyclists, and sets out a number of recommendations to ensure that basic cycling requirements are met. “Over the past year I have visited every London borough to meet cyclists. These visits have provided an opportunity for cyclists to raise issues they felt were important and suggest ways they thought the situation could be improved. Using the feedback from cyclists I have outlined a set of basic recommendations. The bulk of London hasn’t even benefited from the launch of the London cycle hire or the Cycle Superhighways. -

Other submissions 1 Bus facilities on the Strategic Road Network demonstration project: stakeholder engagement report: Executive Summary Campaign for Better Transport has been commissioned in partnership with Transport Focus to collect stakeholder views on the priorities and opportunities for improving bus facilities on the Strategic Road Network to inform Highways England. This report records how the engagement with stakeholders was undertaken, and the responses received. Having captured their feedback, the report sets out some of the key issues identified by stakeholders, including challenges to be addressed, and opportunities to deliver improvements. It contains full reports of the stakeholder workshops and responses from the online surveys together with some additional individual submissions. This stakeholder engagement is part of a larger demonstration project commissioned by Highways England looking at two locations, to identify issues affecting bus and coach operation on the strategic road network to inform future investment. Methodology We contacted a wide range of local stakeholders in both case study areas and invited them to participate in a workshop held in January 2019 in the local area. -

Committee(s) Dated: Highgate Wood Joint Consultative Committee 22 April 2015 Subject: Public Cycling in Highgate Wood Report of: For Decision Superintendent of Hampstead Heath Summary This report provides information for the Highgate Wood Joint Consultative Committee to make a recommendation to the Hampstead Heath, Highgate Wood and Queen’s Park Committee on whether the cycling ban in Highgate Wood should be upheld. A member of the public, and a cyclist, has requested that the prohibition of cycling in Highgate Wood be lifted based on the safer cycling environment that Highgate Wood offers and the national and local policies on encouraging and supporting cycling and its health benefits. This report will provide evidence for both lifting and upholding the cycling ban in the light of recent information, and the increasing popularity and political support for sustainable transport. Recommendations Members are asked to: Note the report, and make recommendations to the Hampstead Heath, Highgate Wood and Queen’s Park Committee that the Officers will raise the issue of improving cycling safety and provision along the Muswell Hill Road with the London Borough of Haringey. Officers also recommend that Byelaw 10 be maintained and enforced but that children under the age of 12 be allowed to ride a bicycle under close supervision. Main Report The growing popularity and benefits of cycling 1. There has been a massive increase in cycling in London over the last 15 years; a report issued by Transport for London in 2011 reported a 150% rise in cycling in the 10 year period between 2000 and 2010, and there has been a corresponding campaign at both governmental and local authority level to encourage Londoners to get out of their cars and cycle instead. -

Cycling Ambition in National Parks: Request for funding proposals Information Note and Application Form 1. The Cycling Ambition Grants (CAG) Fund launched in 2013. The aim was to invest in cycling infrastructure, supporting the Coalition Government’s vision to achieve a step change in cycling. The Government sees that greater levels of safe cycling in and around National Parks can unlock a range of cross cutting economic and social benefits that enable growth, such as improved health and wellbeing, higher productivity through improved fitness, improved public realm and attractive spaces, unlocking capacity on road and public transport networks, creation of new social enterprises and businesses which support cycling services and better linked communities enabling more choice for getting around within and between neighbourhoods. 2. The Department continues to be keen on supporting initiatives which are part of a strategy geared to supporting more cycling in rural areas. The Department looks favourably on schemes that have a strategic approach, are sustainable and support the future development of the local cycling infrastructure. Successful schemes should: • encourage and enable recreational visits to, from and around National Parks by cycle; • encourage and enable people living and/or working in and around National Parks to travel for day-to-day journeys by cycle. 3. Grants provided to Authorities - partnered with National Parks - were to deliver infrastructure improvements to enable more people to cycle in and around the National Parks. Four National Parks (and eight Cities) were funded in 2013 through the CAG programme. 4. The Department has now identified a surplus of capital funds to the value of £1.575m, which it wishes to re-allocate through a mini-competition.
