Ik ben Menno Schoone, auteur en beheerder van de website www.SchoonePc.nl en uitgever van het boek dat nu voor u ligt. Mijn web- site bevat een uitgebreide handleiding voor het (her)installeren, optimaliseren, be- veiligen, onderhouden en gebruik van Windows. Deze gratis informatiebron met praktische tips en tools is inmiddels uitgegroeid tot een compleet naslagwerk dat door vele computergebruikers in Nederland, België en ver daarbuiten wordt ge- bruikt. Gezien het succes van de website blijkt wel dat er een grote vraag is naar be- grijpelijke informatie over Windows. Deze behoefte wordt nog eens extra onder- streept door de grote interesse in de gratis SchoonePC-nieuwsbrief. Na herhaal- delijke verzoeken zijn de SchoonePC-teksten uiteindelijk ook in boekvorm uitge- bracht, het resultaat hiervan ligt nu voor u. Hoe u dit boek het beste kunt lezen Dit boek is geschikt voor zowel de beginnende als de gevorderde computergebrui- ker. De hoofdstukken en paragrafen kunnen veelal onafhankelijk van elkaar worden gelezen. Laat u dus niet afschrikken wanneer een van de onderwerpen wellicht (nog) iets te ingewikkeld is! Laat die informatie dan gewoon even voor wat het is en ga door met het volgende onderwerp. Het zal soms even doorbijten zijn, maar uw inzet zal onder het motto 'Doen = leren' uiteindelijk worden beloond met een ge- optimaliseerd systeem én een aanzienlijke toename van het computerplezier! Gebruik het e-boek om te zoeken! Bij de aankoop van dit boek heeft u tevens een e-boek ontvangen, een digitale kopie van de papieren versie. De inhoud en paginanummering van de digitale kopie is exact gelijk aan die van de papieren versie. Bent u op zoek naar een specifiek onderwerp dan kunt u dus ook handig gebruik maken van de zoekfunctie van de PDF-lezer (bijvoorbeeld Adobe Reader, Foxit Reader e.d.), dat gaat vaak vele malen sneller en efficiënter dan zoeken via de woordenindex! Gratis software? Iemand betaalt de prijs! De in dit boek aanbevolen gratis software kunt u (naar mijn beste eer en geweten) veilig gebruiken. Wees er echter van bewust dat er altijd iemand is die daarvoor de prijs betaalt. Let dus op dat u bij het downloaden van software niet per ongeluk op een advertentie klikt (vaak te herkennen aan een misleidend grote groene down- load-knop). Ook tijdens installatie worden nogal eens onnodige toolbars of mal- ware aangeboden, welke vaak op verwarrende wijze geweigerd moeten worden (zie paragraaf 4.1). Wees dus alert, dan bent u niet degene die de prijs betaalt! Rest mij nog u veel plezier te wensen bij het lezen en toepassen van mijn tips. Aan de slag dus! I installed Windows 8.1 back then and then I upgraded to Windows 10, all working correctly without a problem. Recently after a windows 10 update in August-Sept 2020, all USB ports stopped responding (even in my UEFI BIOS). Currently I'm using PS/2 keyboard and mouse as a last resort. I noticed in Device Manager that Universal Serial Bus Controller - USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller has yellow warning, i click on it and I see in the General tab: Device type: Universal Serial Bus controllers. Manufacturer: Generic USB xHCI Host Controller. Location: PCI bus 0, device 20, function 0. And in Device status reads: This device cannot start. (Code 10) The requested operation was unsuccessful. In the Driver tabs I see the following: - Driver Provider: Microsoft. - Driver Date: 11/16/2020. - Driver Version: 10.0.19041.662. - Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows. I did a fresh reinstall of windows 10 in the Reset PC options but still same problem. In the Events tab i see: - Device configured (usbxhci.inf) - Device not started (USBXHCI) I have tried everything possible, my last option will be to purchase a separate PCI Express USB expansion card but I'm afraid the same thing will happen.
