Fields will expand as necessary as you type. 1. Project Title: Petaluma River Sediment Retention and Riparian Restoration Project 2. Project Purpose – Problem / Goals ("why" the project): Reduce and retain sediment and to enhance riparian corridor with installation of native riparian plants and fencing to restrict livestock. The Petaluma River Watershed is listed as “An Impaired Waterbody” and contains highly erodible soils with high Sedimentation rates. The project serves to retain sediment and reduce erosion potential in priority areas. 3. Project Abstract (brief description of project): The primary purpose of the project is to improve riparian habitat along creek corridors and coupled with the installation of livestock exclusionary fencing, to thereby reduce erosion and sedimentation in the watershed. Lynch Creek, specifically will be the location of enhancement project, located on the west side of the Petaluma community in the Lynch Creek sub-watershed. This sub-watershed is noted as having an estimated historic steelhead run and has a high priority for restoration work. This sub-watershed has been identified as having high erosion acitivity and high erosion potential as studied and documented in the Petaluma Watershed Enhancement Plan.

Size of Project (include units): 2,000 lineal 2. Counties included in project: Sonoma County feet, restoration work on stream corridor F) Biography of Group: : The project area is comprised of land owned privately. The landowners are willing and cooperative with the District. The landowner and District staff will be working closely with the permitting agencies of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, California Department of Fish and Game and the County of Sonoma. The members of the Petaluma Watershed Partnership, a local stakeholder group, will be kept informed by the District of the project progress in this sub- watershed.

G) Biography of Project: : The restoration and riparian enhancement project is located on Lynch Creek, in the upper Petaluma Watershed. This project includes installation of livestock exclusionary fencing, bank stabilization, and installation of native species for revegetation along the riparian corridor for the purposes of erosion control. The early work conducted for another component of this implementation grant was for assistance to landowners for permit consultation and potential avoidance of fines by the California Integrated Waste Management Board. This demo project consisted of landowner and agency meetings and field visits/tours for all affected parties.

H) Short-term Goals: Reduce erosion and restrict livestock from waterways. Establish vegetation with native species to reduce erosion and sedimentation.

I) Long-term Goals: Reduce sedimentation in Petaluma River watershed. Enhance wildlife habitat through establishment of riparian corridors along creeks.
