Graduate Student Council General Meeting Minutes: Tuesday, June 5th, 2012 @ 5:30 PM

President Report – Julia Bradley-Cook 1. Welcome and Introduction 2. Presidential Search Committee Involvement a. Currently we don’t have graduate student representation – historically we haven’t had graduate student representation b. We should aim for it in the future, not known when it will happen b.i. This was expressed by Julia Bradley-Cook (Current GSC President) and Wes Whitaker (GSC president 2011-2012), but they were kindly told “no” for now 3. Graduate Student Space a. Meeting with architects and planners for new Gilman/Dana b. Strategic planning c. They have a meeting with the trustees on June 6th d. As of now, graduate students have space allotted for the Grad Student Lounge 4. Strategic Re-planning a. Input forum b. Fall – feedback from faculty, publish online in winter term 5. Summer Meeting a. Proposal for August meeting a.i. Critical because Fall term is starting earlier next academic year a.ii. Have student orientation planned for incoming students

Vice President Report – Justin Richardson 1. Introduction 2. Go beyond the job description the way Aarathi did and represent graduate students 3. Strategic Planning a. Consulting other schools/grad schools on what’s working, what’s not working b. Wes Whitaker and Aarathi Prasad (GSC Vice-president 2011-2012) have been attending the meetings 4. Organic Farm a. Would like to start a program where graduate students can use/help at the Dartmouth Organic Farm

Landers Report 1. Graduation is coming up 2. Grad reception from 5:00 – 6:30 on Friday, June 8th a. Rumored that Mary Ann-Fox is going to show up (Board of Trustees), and another trustee is going to show up 3. Consulting Club – hoping to do a panel at the end of June Activities Report – Gilbert Rahme, Lisa Jackson 1. Introduction 2. Party Dates a. Still working on the dates b. Summer b.i. Pig Roast c. Fall c.i. Halloween party – last weekend of October – Alumni Hall is booked since it is also the weekend of Homecoming, the Saturday before that, the Saturday after that c.ii. October 31st – Wednesday d. Spring d.i. February 2nd - (Saturday) Winter Semi-formal 3. GSC Gazetteer position a. Someone to take over the Gazetteer from Gilbert Rahme? 4. Bartender Certification a. Certified bartenders – Dartmouth College, not NH state certification b. Sober monitors c. People interested in doing this – wine and beer d. It costs $10, but the Graduate Student Office is paying for it Student Life Report – Ron Bucca 1. Diversity committee with Jane Seibel 2. Claremont Food Drive – thanks for the contribution a. Claremont kids rely on federal budget and their funding has been cut by a third for the summer b. Deposit food by the MALS office, or contact Ron Bucca 3. Future events a. Dental Insurance b. Advance Transit b.i. Figuring out what the priorities are c. 4-question questionnaire for the Fall term d. Contact Ron if you have any ideas Academic Chair Report – Richard Lopez 1. Introduction 2. Feedback for Grad Talks a. Impression that they went very well b. Speakers were engaging b.i. Audience at Grad Talks can be anyone b.ii. At Nerd Nigths – the audience is Dartmouth Graduate Students c. Lisa Suggestion: Speakers expand on some topics c.i. Website is cool d. Not a science café format, a little more formal and a platform for students to talk about their research, more of an outreach e. Richard Lopez will try to get data for who the audience was e.i. For this time, there was a good proportion of grad students e.ii. Some undergrads e.iii. Random new faces – but we don’t know who they are e.iii.1. Justin Richardson – some were people from the town Finance Chair Report – Adrienne Perkins 1. Budget update 2. We’re on schedule for the budget a. Macroscopic – everything matches up b. Microscopic – she’s still working on the details 3. Funding requests – we have $932 in that account 4. Social events budgeted at GSAC Report – Dan Durcan 1. Introduction 2. Small events 3. Mini-Golf – tomorrow 4. Turkish cooking in the summer Secretary Report – Yash Patankar 1. Introduction 2. Grad Student Space – been to 3 meetings at least, reps should collect data for what the grad students want the space to look like NP Report – Regina Salvat 1. Keep an eye for updates New Business 1. Grad Student Space 2. Web Committee Meeting a. Information and form on the GSC webpage 3. Outreach and Volunteer Chair a. Input: sub-committee within the Student life? Or a separate chair a.i. GRT is not a GSC-recognized group a.ii. A little wing of the executive board right now a.iii. Have a chair position or as a GSC group? b. Comments: Some people like it b.i. Erin – it may be too time-consuming if it was an Executive Board position since that itself is very-time consuming c. Vote: If you would like to make changes to the constitution so Julia can appoint a person 4. Ivy Summit a. Every Spring b. UPenn this time c. What it means to you? d. 1st weekend in November e. 4-5 Reps: it is dependent on our budget/plans f. If you have any ideas, discuss with Julia 5. Cooking without Fire – Jim Peck is organizing in the next two weeks ($175) Action Items 1. Argentine Tango Society – funding request a. Provisional funding regarded they adjust the prices for grads and undergrads. 2. Next GSC General Meeting on August 7, 2012
