Hockey Matters Captain’s Reports 1s Peter Flanagan The First team retained their Premiership position and finishing 5th the highest in the Club’s history. The side had just 1 point after 4 games but for the first time in the Premiership developed a mentality during the season that they could compete and win every time they took to the field.

2s Peter Mulford Congratulations to the first team. The 2s have had five U18s in the side, a good indication for the future. Also the side played five University boys too. A good season overall.

3s Dursh Patel Our primary goals for the year have been to increase participation on a Saturday across the club and to push students into the performance teams at the higher end of the club. This year we have made great progress on this front, with some students turning out regularly for the 4’s or 5’s and other students playing large roles in the 2’s fantastic season.

The 3’s this year have enjoyed their own success too, winning the northwest division 1 and gaining promotion to the now highest league that a 3rd team can access. In addition to this we have managed to keep the tightest defence across the league (conceding only 25 goals) and have in LVB, the league’s top goal scorer.

It is a testament to the strength and depth of the club that even the 3rd team can win our league in such dominant fashion with 46 individual players taking part in our season (26 of which were students)!

Finally, it’s worth taking a moment to thank Howard, Ollie, Peter and all the other people working behind the scenes to make this 3rd team work, because without them this team would not function.

4s Notes read to meeting by the Secretary The 4's made a bright start to the season, hovering in 4th place till November, then due to unavailability & injuries, numbers were somewhat depleted, leading to a dip over November & December. Improved availability ensured we gained respectability with some excellent wins to finish a credible 8th place despite bring the only 4th team in Div.3 South. Won 9 games Lost 13 games The highlights of the year have been the continued development of Tim Winter, Tom Dixon & Will Jones who performed consistently well over the whole season and should now see progression to the 3rd team & beyond. The commitment of the university students has been impressive with Joe Evans & Hugh Britt appearing in the majority of fixtures. We look forward to the next cohort of juniors coming through for development but need to ensure a consistent number of adults are available each week to support their development. Will Jones is the 4th team player of the year and was also nominated for the club, junior player of the year.

5s Notes read to meeting by the Secretary Played 22, won 17, drawn 2, lost 3, goals for 100, goals against 41, points 53 5s finished 2nd in NW 7SE. A strong and enjoyable season, with some good hockey played- especially in the 4-4 draw against Keele University 1st team- the only game all season that they didn't win. We had a strong core of consistent players- 9 played more than 75% of our games, which meant that we played more and more as a team as the season progressed. We tended to start games slowly and only really switch on after half time, so it was particularly pleasing to string together two halves of decent hockey in the last game of the season and put 11 past Lymm- taking us to 100 goals for the season. Nathan Barratt was our top scorer with 22 goals from 19 games, including, much to Ollie's disgust, a few reverse stick blinders. It was good to have Peter Simpson back as our regular umpire; many thanks to him for his commitment.

6s Ken Latham League Champions – Promoted to Div 7SE The 6th team was set up with a view to providing a structured platform for juniors progressing from the Badgers to the Men’s senior leagues. The season has been not only very enjoyable but a real success. The 6th team has played some superb structured hockey and the incoming juniors have integrated really well into the senior ranks. Over 100 goals scored and only 16 conceded. It is hoped that a number of the lads progress further up the ranks making way for another batch of juniors for the upcoming season. Goal of the Season - George Jones - reverse stick shot in off the bar after doing at least three of the opposition.

Manchester University Report Paul Gannon A rebuilding year for the University teams as they lost 11 first team squad players. Mixed outcomes, with 1 team promoted, 2 runners up and 2 mid table. The connection between the University and the Club is getting better.

Director of Junior Performance John Dixon JD gave a summary of the season’s events and the Club Captain thanked him for all his work. Planned to have 2 Beavers and a Badgers side next season

Treasurer’s Report Report to be an appendix at a later date. We will finish with a small surplus.

Chairman’s Report 125 Draw very important please encourage players to draft in parents and relatives, we must get 125 draw members. People at this meeting have made us one of the top five clubs in the country. Their ambition and drive have given us perhaps our most successful season ever. When you walk through the club doors you are entering the most successful club in the North. A collective effort has delivered us success. We have made a desert out of our rivals and made Victory! (rousing cheer emanates from the attendees).
