Catholic Charities’ Immigration Services to Host Third Annual National Migration Week Prayer Vigil The Catholic Church in the United States will celebrate National Migration Week on January 2–8, 2011. This year’s primary theme will again be “Renewing Hope, Seeking Justice,” although the focus will be migrant families. The observance began over a quarter century ago by the bishops to provide Catholics an opportunity to take stock of the wide diversity of the Church and the ministries serving them.

To mark the week, Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas’ Immigration Services will host a prayer vigil and viewing of the short film “Dying to Live, A Migrant’s Journey.” During the vigil, guest speakers Jerome Cabeen and Jesus Abrego will share their migration experience. This will take place on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Catholic Charities’ Central Services Facility located at 2780 Eastex Freeway in Beaumont. A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the vigil following at 6:00 p.m. The community is invited to attend.

“Dying to Live” takes a profound look at the human face of the migrant. With the insights of Pulitzer Prize winning photographers, theologians, church and congressional leaders, activists, musicians and the immigrants themselves, the film explores the places of conflict, pain and hope along the US-Mexico border. It is a reflection on the human struggle for a more dignified life and the search to find God in the midst of it all.
