George Riley Sherman born in Moriah, Essex Co NY, parents born in VT. Apparently this family was only land owners in MI and lived in NY. (Gen Ref: DPS p360; FDS 924; SD p931). 1846. George's father purchased the mining properties near Port Henry NY Essex Co (on the Hudson River), and later named the Witherbee, Sherman and Company: Later George owned some of the company. Both George's great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather fought in the Revolution (DAR Lineage Book Vol 32 p230). 1850. Lived with parents in Moriah NY Essex Co (SD p931, Census). 1853. George married in Port Henry NY to Hannah Jane Douglass, born 1832. 1895. George died at Port Henry NY. 1898. Hannah Jane died at Port Henry NY. 1902. George R Sherman probate (DEL/PRx, packet 662) and land records (DEL/LR Grantor Index of 1895/1920, book 9 p480). George owned thousands of acres of land in Delta, Marquette, Alger and Menominee Counties: He dealt in land and iron mining interests. George left his entire estate to his wife, except his interest in the Witherbee, Sherman Land Company. 1902. Jane H (sic) Sherman probate (DEL/PRx, packet 663) and land records (DEL/LR Grantor Index of 1895/1920, book 9 pages 544/45). Jane left the property to her sons John and George and grandson George. [Reference DPS p360 indicated a son George Douglas Sherman but not a John, however it did indicate grandsons John Riley Sherman and George Kinsley Sherman]. 2 Children: 1. George Douglas 9 Sherman born 1854 in Port Henry NY (SD p960). Married 1st 1874 in Crown Point NY to Jennie Bailey, born 1857: Divorced 1902. He married 2nd to Nora F Kaine born 186x. (FDS 885) 2 Children: 1. George Kinsley 10 Sherman born 1875. Married 1899 at Saratoga NY to Lottie Myrick Nims, born 1877. In 1911 wife was seeking a separation. No children. (FDS 910 SD p970) 2. John Riley 10 Sherman born 1877. Married at Port Henry NY to Maude Georgianna Agnew, born 1880. Possible: 1895/1920 John A (sic) Sherman grantee of estate of Jane H Sherman et al (DEL/LRx Grantee of 1895/1920, book 17 p361). John died 1912 at StAugustine FL. (FDS 1421; SD p1432) 1 Child: Douglas Riley 11 Sherman born 1899, died 1900 (SD p566; possibly MI/DRx 26-352). 2. Anna or Anne Gertrude 9 Sherman born 1854, died 1874 (SD p182; not in MI/DRx).

HARRY SHERMAN 1871. Harry born in MI (1900 Soundex). 1900. Census of Gladstone Twp Delta Co indicated: Harry age 29; Minnie Sherman age 26, born 1879 in MI (Soundex s14).
JENGE SHERMAN 1833. Jenge born in Canada (1860 Census). (Gen Refs: not in LDS/AF, LDS/IGI, NEHGR CD-ROM). 1860. Census of Delta Twp Delta Co indicated: Jenge age 27, sawyer; lived in a rooming house (p1034/d1145/f731; nb/9.54).
JOHN SHERMAN 1870. John was born in Poland, parents unknown. (DEL/DR book V). 1900. John, declared insane (DEL/PRx packet 535): This probate record not open to the public. 1910. Census of Pentland Twp Luce Co indicated: John age 39, born 1871 in Poland, Russian ancestry, parents born in unknown, single, inmate at UP Hospital (e159/s8/f2). 1920. Census of Luce Co indicated: John age not given, born in Poland, patient at Upper Peninsular Hospital For The Insane (Soundex e200/p11). 1945. John died single in the Newberry State Mental Hospital Luce Co, age 75. He had previously resided in Gladstone MI Delta Co, The body removed to Ann Arbor MI Washtenaw Co, burial at Univ Medical Center, Ann Arbor MI (DEL/DR book V). John died, body was sent from Newberry to University Medical School (University of Michigan Anatomical Donations Program, Anatomical Materials Register number 13,363, Bentley Historical Library).
