Geometry is a year-long course that ends with the Geometry Regents in June.

CURRICULUM TOPICS: Coordinate Geometry Similarity of Triangles and its Applications Constructions Locus Reasoning Euclidean Proofs: Informal/Formal Triangle Congruence Triangle Congruence and Inequality Polygons Circles Transformational Geometry 3-D Solids

SUPPLIES: Bring them EVERY Day: 1. 3 Ring binder 2. Loose-leaf paper for binder 3. Pencil Case for calculator with 3 holes for binder 4. Graphing Calculator 5. Pencil and/or Pen (pencil preferred) 6. Compass (Not needed every day)…buy a good one…you’ll be glad!

ATTENDANCE: Be to class on time with everything you need.  It is the responsibility of the student to make up all missed work, and to SHOW ME THE WORK WHEN COMPLETED.  If you are absent, you must copy someone’s notes – but Do NOT copy notes during class time.  Homework missed due to absence must be made up within 2 school days or no credit will be given.  Tests and quizzes will be taken on the day the student returns to school unless the absence has been for more than 2 days.

GRADING POLICY:  Tests and quizzes – 90%  Class work, class participation, homework, other – 10% HOMEWORK: Homework will be assigned on a DAILY basis.  Each night’s homework assignment should be copied into your planner.  Sometimes homework will be checked, sometimes it will not be checked, and sometimes it will be collected and graded.  You will NOT be allowed to leave class to get your homework. It will be marked as not completed.

TESTS & QUIZZES:  If you are absent the day of a quiz or test, it is YOUR responsibility to find out what you missed and make it up  All makeup’s are to occur out side of class time – you must see me to arrange a time  If you do not take all quizzes & tests in a quarter, 1 point will be deducted from your quarter grade for each missed quiz or test.  Expect a quiz almost every day, they will not always be announced.  All tests and large quizzes will be announced a week or so prior.

CLASS PARTICIPATION: Every student is expected to be actively involved in every lesson, whether it is by asking questions, volunteering answers, or working actively with group members.  Each student’s interaction with others will be considered part of class participation.

PHONES:  Phones that are visible, ringing, or vibrating will be confiscated. No exceptions.

MAKE-UPS It is worth noting that all assignments should be made up as to learn from your mistakes, even though credit may not be awarded;

Math is learned and perfected by discovering your own mistakes and misunderstandings and working to fix them.

 Homework – there are no “make-ups” it is either done on time or you get a zero  Tests & Quizzes – you are encouraged to make corrections on tests and quizzes to learn from your mistakes.

EXTRA HELP:  Math Lab….every day in the library during lunch…just show up!  Wednesdays 7 a.m. in room 162. Let’s have a great year!
