-Port of Georgetown transferred to non-for-profit group

Gail Shea, regional minister for Prince Edward Island and minister of National Revenue, today announced the transfer of the Port of Georgetown to Georgetown Port Inc. (GPI). The transfer agreement includes a contribution of $3.8 million from the Government of Canada to cover operational costs and maintain the port's infrastructure. Read more

St. Kitts was listed among the top 50 busiest cruise ports of call and homeports by passenger numbers in 2010. Cruise Insight Magazine - the global cruise market magazine listed St. Kitts at number 35 with 595,000 passengers in 2010, up 144,000 or 32 percent increase from the 451,000 passengers in 2009 in a 2011 edition. Princess Cruises has been honored by the ports of San Francisco and Victoria, BC, Canada, with awards for the cruise line’s environmental efforts. The Port of San Francisco’s Cruise Ship Environmental Award was presented to Sea Princess and Sapphire Princess. The ships earned this distinction during the 2011 season for air emissions reduction, advanced wastewater management, and recycling and disposal programs. Read more

- Port of corpus Christi plans to appeal decisions on wetlands at former naval base

The Port of Corpus Christi plans to appeal a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers decision reaffirming its finding that a tract of port property contains several acres of wetlands. The 467-acre tract, along with the former Naval Station Ingleside, is on track to be sold to Occidental Petroleum Corp. by summer's end. Once the sale is complete and the port loses ownership, the port loses its standing to pursue the matter, a port official said. Read more

- Port of Long Beach Gets 12 Pct Budget Increase

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners on Monday approved a $942 million budget for fiscal year 2013, a 12 percent increase over the past year, reflecting the Port’s growing investment in its facilities and infrastructure modernization. The new budget includes $720 million in capital spending, a 14 percent increase over fiscal year 2012, from October 1 through September 30. The growth in capital investment comes mainly from two large construction projects that have already begun at the Port: the Middle Harbor Terminal Project and preliminary work for the replacement of the Gerald Desmond Bridge.
