Job Notice Position: Farmer Field School (FFS) Facilitator Employer: Horticulture Collaborative Research Support Program (Hort CRSP) Terms of Employment: Estimated Beginning Date: August 1, 2011 Estimated Ending Date: March 31, 2012

Job Description The position of FFS facilitator is to work directly with farmer groups, and help them discover important concepts in agriculture through practical learning. The facilitator will reside in the same village as the farmers and meet with their groups daily. The FFS sessions will focus on topics of farmer entrepreneurship, soil fertility management, on-farm experimentation, integrated pest management, financial literacy, and other issues that come up for individual groups. The facilitator will make their own schedules and must be able to manage their time in the field independently. A FFS director will provide support to all facilitators in the field. Integrated into the FFS program, the facilitator will organize meetings between stakeholders in the market-chains for the farmers' FFS crops. This entails researching who the local stakeholders are, making contact with them, interesting them in participating in market-chain meetings, and organizing local meeting sessions. Finally, the facilitator will be responsible for calling on the program's directors to obtain additional support to make these meetings productive.

Job Duties  Facilitate Farmer Field School sessions with at least 4 groups  Support leaders of farmer groups to become experts in specific topics  Complete monitoring forms and report to FFS director  Identify and make contact with local market-chain stakeholders  Facilitate participatory market chain meetings between local stakeholders  Identify the need for additional assistance, and call on directors for the appropriate resources  Attend initial job training in full (2-3 weeks – to be held in July 2011)  Must be willing to live full time in a rural setting for up to 10 months.

Qualifications for Application: I. Language ◦ Fluent in Luganda (Please do not apply if you are not fluent in Luganda) ◦ AND ◦ Fluent in English II. Agricultural Knowledge ◦ Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in crop production OR ◦ 3+ Years practicing crop-based agriculture III. Experience ◦ 1+ Years working directly with farmers IV. Salary: This position will receive a salary of 500,000/ per month. This salary is to cover all living and transport expenses for the position, and no other allowances will be made. However, a bicycle will be made available to the facilitator for local transportation needs. Payment will be made in cash at the beginning of each month.
