BRiTA Futures Group Facilitator Training

The Queensland Transcultural Mental Health Centre (QTMHC) is offering training for people who are interested in becoming BRiTA Futures Program Facilitators of the Adolescents or the Primary School Aged Children Program

What is the BRiTA Futures Program? BRiTA Futures – “Building Resilience in Transcultural Australians” – is a group-based program designed for children and adolescents with a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background who are learning to live in a new and different culture. The program includes learning activities to strengthen participants’ personal and social resources – to build resilience – so they can thrive in their everyday environment. BRiTA Futures is delivered by trained Program Facilitators in school and community settings. It has been developed by the Qld Transcultural Mental Health Centre (QTMHC). The Primary School aged program is for children aged 9-12 years and consists of 8 x 2 hour sessions. Each session includes information about the session topic as well as fun activities to allow children to practice and learn helpful new skills. Some of the topics include: cultural identity, stress, building positive relationships, conflict resolution, and values and spirituality. The Adolescents program consists of 10 x 2 hour sessions designed to address the special issues faced by young people aged between 12 and 18 years developing between two (or more) cultures. It helps young people explore what it means to be bi-cultural in Australia and strengthen their cultural identity. They build skills and attitudes for facing the challenges they could encounter at home, at school and in their communities, so they can make successful transitions through adolescence.
