Here is a preview of some of the events we offer our PCS subscribers:
TECH TUESDAYS - This summer, you are welcome to join Dell for a series of free webinars on effectively using the technology you already have in your school. Each webinar will cover a relevant topic and address how it can apply to your school. Interactive webinars will be short (15 to 30 minutes) and are designed to give you ideas and get you started. They will also be archived and available for you or your staff to download for free. We will cover the following in each webinar:
What are the learning objectives in this application? Is this a teaching tool or is this an administrative tool? How should I go about implementing this? Sharing best practices What will it cost?
INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARDS IN YOUR SCHOOL Perhaps you have Interactive Whiteboards (SMART Board) in your school. Do you feel your staff is using them effectively? This workshop will outline resources for staff and reasons why an Interactive Whiteboard can help your staff teach more effectively.
LEGO ROBOTICS: KEY FOR SUCCESS - It can be daunting to decide how to go about using LEGO Robotics within your school. We will help you understand more about: Robotic competitions and other ways to use robotics, how much training your staff will need, for what age group is robotics effective, what are the costs.
SCRATCH: FREE SOFTWARE FOR ANIMATION, GAME DESIGN AND STEM LEARNING - Scratch, software for STEM learning, was developed at the MIT Media Lab. This overview will show you the amazing power of the software and examples of how you may use it within your school. EXCEL: TIPS AND TRICKS FOR ADMINISTRATORS - Being comfortable using Excel will help you make better financial decisions for your school. This Webinar will help demystify the use of Excel. We will cover exporting data from FAMIS into a spreadsheet and other processes that will allow you to use this tool effectively.

This Webinar will provide you with a roadmap so that the equipment will no longer be in the closet and will be used by your students.
PC AND SERVER TRAINING
Starting in September we will bring free PC and Server training to a location near you. These are some of the classes we have in store for you:
PC TRAINING:
WINDOWS XP AND WINDOWS 7 PC FUNDAMENTALS – It is an introduction to the fundamentals of personal computers and basic troubleshooting. The course will help school computer coordinators get the most out of their PCs, as well as perform simple preventative maintenance (tune-ups) and resolve common issues to keep the PC up and running. This full day workshop is geared for technology coordinates and teachers with beginner experiences working on PC’s and Laptops using Windows XP and the new Windows 7.
The course is comprised of two components: the morning session, designed for the faculty or staff member who has little experience in his knowledge of personal computers. The student will leave this class understanding the nature and components of computers, how they work together, and simple troubleshooting techniques. The afternoon class which builds upon the knowledge gained in the morning session is a more in-depth look at the use of computers in the school environment, including networking, the Internet, printing, troubleshooting and diagnosis of common problems, and how to go about getting help.
This workshop is designed so that it may be taken as a one-day class open to all, or as a stand-alone course for beginners in the morning or for intermediate students in the afternoon.
SERVER TRAINING
IP BASICS – During this class the instructor will provide a brief lecture on each of the listed topics followed by an opportunity for attendee’s to ask questions specific to their school. A series of “hands-on” labs have been designed to allow attendee’s to gather relevant information and perform troubleshooting steps.

INSTALLING and CONFIGURING ACTIVE DIRECTORY and DNS – During this class the instructor will provide a brief lecture on each of the listed topics followed by “hands-on” labs allowing each attendee to build their own Active Directory and DNS infrastructure from the ground up.

WORKING WITH ACTIVE DIRECTORY USERS and COMPUTERS (ADUC) – During this class the instructor will provide a brief lecture on the basic components of Active Directory and their use. A series of “hands-on” labs allow each attendee to perform the necessary steps to customize their Active Directory and simplify the creation of new user accounts.

USING THE MICROSOFT MANAGEMENT CONSOLE (MMC) – During this class the instructor will provide a brief lecture covering the relevant snap-ins for managing your environment. A “hands-on” lab has been designed to allow attendee’s to then create, customize, work with and save their console.

USING REMOTE DESKTOP (RDP) – During this class the instructor will provide a brief lecture covering the listed topics followed by a series of “hands-on” labs. These labs are designed to show attendee’s how to enable, manage and customize shortcuts for RDP sessions.

WORKING WITH PROFILES – During this class the instructor will provide a brief lecture covering the different types of user profiles available in a client/server environment. A series of “hands-on” labs have been designed so that the attendees can configure each type of profile and see the expected results of implementing them for users.

GROUP POLICY BASICS – During this class the instructor will provide a brief lecture explaining the basics of Group Policies and how placement and filters affect users and computer in your environment. A series of “hands-on” labs have been designed to allow attendees to customize existing Group Policy Objects (GPOs) as well as creating new GPOs for Folder Redirection, Security and customizing Internet Explorer settings.

DOMAIN CONTROLLER REDUNDANCY – During this class the instructor will provide a brief lecture explaining the benefits of having multiple Domain Controllers. During the “hands-on” lab attendees will perform the steps for adding an additional Domain Controller to an existing domain and the 5 FSMO roles.

ADDING A 2008 DOMAIN CONTROLLER TO EXISTING 2003 DOMAIN – During this class we will discuss upgrade paths and attendees will perform the steps required to add a new 2008 Domain Controller to their existing 2003 domain.

SERVER MAINTENANCE and TROUBLESHOOTING – During this class we will discuss proper maintenance for keeping your servers running efficiently. The discussion will include performing Windows Updates, Antivirus Updates, Antivirus Scans, Event Logs and resource sites. A series of simple labs are designed to give each attendee the opportunity to work with Windows Updates, perform Antivirus scan, review Event Logs and work to troubleshoot Event Log issues.

WORKING WITH SYMANTEC BACKUP EXEC – During this class we will discuss performing backups and restores using Symantec’s Backup Exec software. A lab will follow that will allow each attendee to configure Backup Exec, create a backup job and perform a restore of deleted data.

APPLE OS X SERVER FUNDAMENTALS This full day workshop is geared for technology coordinates and teachers with beginner to advanced experiences working with Apple Servers running OS X 10.4 -10.5. We will begin the day by laying the groundwork to better understand an IP Network and how to work and troubleshoot within each school. For server novices, we will explain the hardware, operating system versions and services a server can provide and match them to your needs. Attendees with limited server experience will benefit from modules on managing user preferences and creating user accounts. Even your seasoned Server Administrators will benefit from our modules and demos that include Installing OS X Server, Installing and configuring Open Directory/DNS and Group preferences.
