Classroom Policies and Procedures
Since you are enrolled in a business class, we will run our classroom like a business office. You are the employee, and I am your supervisor. School is your job. You are scheduled from Monday- Friday and your shift is 50 minutes. You are expected to work your entire shift and sometimes overtime is required for homework. You get weekends, holidays, and summers off. NOTE: Most employees only get two-weeks of vacation all year. Your grade is your pay.
Page 1 Accounting I Procedures Manual Accounting I Procedures Entering the Business Classroom: Upon entering the business classroom, you should go directly to your assigned seat. Please greet your fellow students and teacher in a pleasant manner and put your books on the desk quietly. Begin readying yourself for class to start. You should be in the classroom well before the tardy bell rings so that you are organized and ready to begin when the bell has rung. Check the board as there will be directions as to what you need to do to get started. I will dismiss the class with a final statement each day. The bell does not dismiss the class.
Turning in Work: You will be asked to pass papers forward when you are in the front of the room. When you are in the back at a computer, you will turn in your work in the appropriate tray for your class period.
Use of Equipment: Refer to your AUP that you and your parents signed. Saying that you “did not know” is not acceptable. You are responsible for your workstation. Do not change the desktop in any way. NO FOOD OR DRINK is to be brought into this lab. Proper care of equipment is expected. Internet use is not acceptable unless it is part of the lesson for the day. NO DOWNLOADING is permitted. Teacher monitoring, as well as Technology Department monitoring will be taking place at all times. You are not to be using the colored printer without permission. Printing work for other classes is only allowed with approval from your instructor.
Attendance/Absent Work: Each day we build on material learned the previous day. When you miss a 50 minute lesson on a new concept, that puts you behind the rest of the class. That 50 minutes must be made up. The best thing you can do to do well in this class is to be here every day. When you are absent, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to find out what you missed. You can check the class website. To use the lab to catch up, simple see your instructor about a date and time to come in. BEING ABSENT DOES NOT EXCUSE YOU FROM THE WORK. There is an allotted amount of time to catch up—see the school handbook for this policy. If the work is not made up in the allowed amount of time, the grade is a zero. You cannot wait until the end of a grading period and then decide to catch up.
Leaving the Classroom: Students are required to have their planner signed in order to leave the classroom. Leaving the classroom is at the teacher’s discretion.
Focusing on the Lesson Being Presented: While the teacher is demonstrating, it is imperative that you pay attention and follow along. The expectation is that as we begin learning new material everyone will follow along with the lesson and do the work with the group. In this way, everyone learns the new, unfamiliar material together. We can then do practice exercises and
little by little each student will master the material. No student should ever be trying to do work for another class. Each student should make every effort to stay focused on the material being covered.
Bringing Essential Items to Class Each Day: It is important that a business student begin thinking about his or her career of the future and always have things needed for the class. For Accounting I, you will need the following each day: textbook, workbook, calculator, straight edge, pencil/pen, and a notebook
Page 2 Accounting I Procedures Manual Accounting I Procedures FOR THIS CLASS ONLY. It is also a good idea to have a folder for completed assignments, but not necessary, as I will assign each of you a file in the cabinet.
Daily Assignments/Being Ready: If there was an assignment given the previous day, each student is expected to have it completed for the next class period. This means that students should not come in and frantically try to finish an assignment as role is taken. ASSIGNMENTS ARE DUE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE HOUR UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE. WORK TURNED IN AFTER THE TEACHER HAS REQUESTED IT IS LATE.
Extra Help: If you need additional help or lab time, make arrangements with the teacher. I am usually here by 7:20 each morning and will be here until 3:45 most afternoons.
Late Work: Late assignments are not acceptable. There will be a 30% deduction on the grade if you come by my classroom PRIOR TO CLASS and give me a LEGITIMATE REASON. Just coming in to class and saying you didn’t understand or that you will bring it tomorrow will result in a zero. You must make an effort to see me if there is a problem with completing an assignment on time. Also, late work will not be accepted if I have already went over the answers to that assignment.
Seating Arrangements: In the workplace, we don’t get to choose where our workstation will be or who we will work with. Therefore, seating arrangements will change periodically at the discretion of the teacher.
Finishing Early: If you finish an assignment early, you should be working on your news articles for the quarter or finishing any incomplete assignments. You can also use this time to read the news online or work on other homework. PLAYING GAMES IS NOT GOING TO BE TOLERATED.
Cheating: Cheating will not be tolerated. Cheating consists of sharing files, printing files for others, copying or “checking” written assignments, plagiarizing/copying for a text or website, looking at another person’s paper, etc. Cheating of any sort will result in a zero for both students.
Grading: The school grade scale will be used. Grades will be weighted as follows:
Assignments/Learning Activities 50%
Projects/Assessments 50%
Respect: Respect for others must be demonstrated at all times. This includes your teachers and ALL OTHER students.
Page 3 Accounting I Procedures Manual Accounting I Procedures Taking A Test: On the day of the test, you will have a different seating arrangement. If you do not finish the test within the class period, you will have to come in the next day and finish it before school, after school, or during advisory. You must make arrangements to finish the test on your own time.
