MINUTES Walter Aseltine School Community Council Meeting January 27, 2015

Present: Melanie Cruse, Jannelle Ernst, Janet Hutchison, Lana Moore, Laurie Slocombe, Julie Sparks, Linda Varty. Regrets: Tammy Legge, Greg McJannet, Tanya Morris Walter Aseltine School Community Council 1. Call to order – Penny called the meeting to order at 7:03. Box 1117 Rosetown, SK 2. February 10 Greg McJannet c) Writers’ Work Shop – postponed for 2015 [email protected] d) Math Olympics a. On January 30th teachers will meet in three groups to plan the oratory, Math Buddies day and the Science Olympics. b. Math Buddies i. Staff will plan during PD day on 30th.

Something will go in the next newsletter to highlight what we are doing and where we are headed as far as donations. c. Charitable donations can be made through the School Division. Laurie will check with Rhonda to see if there is a minimum donation that needs to be made before a receipt will be offered. f) Math Goal – Brainstorm ideas a. Teachers will discuss this on Friday and will let u know if there are ways we can help. b. Laurie discussed the desire to create a visual board to show the work that we are doing on Math. c. DEAR addition 30 second math drill. i. Can use the results to show growth. ii. SMARTBoard drills g) 60 Minute Kids Club a. Number 1 school in Saskatchewan. b. Top 10 schools in Canada. h) Basketball in school through Steve Nash Basketball. a. Starts early February on Wednesdays 7. Set Next Meeting date & time a. Items to discuss: i. Walking Trail update ii. Results from staff planning on 30th iii. Guest Reader Update iv. Rural Congress – Registration – Urgent. v. Playground b. February 24, 2015 7:00 i. Jannelle cannot attend but would be able to Skype. 8. Adjournment – Julie adjourned the meeting at 7:55.

Agenda and previous minutes will be sent out every Monday prior to the meeting. 4. Items can be added if sent to chair before the Monday prior to the meeting 5. Stay on topic; no sidebars 6. Set phones on vibrate 7. Call or email if you cannot attend by the morning of the meeting day 8. Respect others Opinions 9. Confidentiality for all things discussed at meetings.
