This sucks!!!!
From MSNBC
Actor Earl Hindman, best known for playing a neighbor whose face was forever obscured by a fence on the television show "Home Improvement," died of lung cancer Monday in Stamford, Conn. He was 61.
As Wilson, the neighbor of Tim Allen's character on the long-running sitcom, Hindman dispensed folksy advice from behind a white picket fence, with only his eyes and forehead visible to audiences. Before appearing on the show, he played Detective Lt. Bob Reid for 16 years on the daytime drama "Ryan's Hope."
Hindman made his name in New York theater, appearing in "Dark of the Moon" off Broadway in 1970 and in "The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel" at the Public Theater in 1971. He also acted in two short-lived Broadway plays and in several movies, including "The Ballad of the Sad Cafe" (1991) and "Final" (2001).
He was born in Bisbee, Ariz., and studied acting at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Posted by: Spazticus on Dec 30, 03 | 4:07 pm | Profile

I am currently against the draft. I think the draft world be a terrible thing unless used during a national emergency. We are not currently in a national emergency. The situation is under control. We can substantially increase the size of our military just be increasing the budget for the all volunteer force.
Anyway here are some opinions by some folks:
From: http://www.time.com/
Should the Draft Be Reinstated?
CHARLES RANGEL Democratic Congressman from New York and Korean War vet Staying the course in Iraq means increasing our troop strength, and, not surprisingly, recruitment and re- enlistment levels are down. But proposed enlistment bonuses and other economic incentives will not make the military any more attractive to upper-middle-class young people. Increasingly we will be a nation in which the poor fight our wars while the affluent stay home.
To correct the disparity among those who serve, South Carolina Senator Fritz Hollings and I have proposed a new draft. All men and women ages 18 to 26 would be eligible for induction once they have completed high school. Those not needed in the military would perform civilian service. Enacting our plan would democratize our armed forces and return to the "citizen soldier" ideal that has served our nation so well. More... Posted by: Yarbz on Dec 30, 03 | 8:03 am | Profile

Chinese woman kills daughter to escape neighbour's scorn
SHANGHAI (AFP) - A woman killed one of her daughters because her neighbours were making snide remarks about the fact that she had three children.
Wang Wenjun, 33, migrated to Shanghai's suburban Fengxian district in the early 1990s and married a local farmer. They had three children - two daughters and a son, the Shanghai Morning Post said Tuesday.
But the woman was constantly harassed by her neighbours in a country that abides by a one-child policy. Although rural families are allowed two children if the first one is a daughter, a third child usually results in a heavy fine and social penalties for the child for much of his or her juvenile life.
Unable to stand the taunts any longer, Wang flung her youngest child, a seven-year-old, into a river in August, the paper said. She has been detained and will face court soon, the Post said, without mentioning whether any charges were laid against the neighbours.

Being a veteran, I understand why this is happening, but I also understand that our military is, and always should be voluntary. When a soldier signs a contract, he or she is required to live up to that contract. Why is the pentagon not held to the same standard? When people are forced to serve, that takes away from the "freedom" they are fighting for.

Isn't this the way things in this world are supposed to work? Iran has a tragedy, US and other countries immediately offers aid. Not based on if you do this or if you do that, but "here you go Iran, let us help"... If we can do this and they can chill, why can't everyone just work together and live and let live? (To use a worn out but appropriate cliché)... Anyway, maybe this will open a door to peace and understanding and tolerance of religions and even ideologies. That said, tolerating ideologies that are bent of destroying you should not happen, we need a little give and take on all sides. Iran would be better off updating their building and infrastructure than building nukes or oppressing their people by religious thugs called Ayatollahs...

From FoxNews:
GDP Surged in Q3, Government Confirms
WASHINGTON — The U.S. economy, propelled by tax cuts and low interest rates, roared ahead at an 8.2 percent annual rate in the third quarter, the best showing in nearly 20 years, while Americans' incomes and spending both showed healthy gains in November.
The government reports Tuesday on the gross domestic product (search), the country's broadest measure of economic health, and personal incomes and spending provided further evidence that the economy was convincingly shaking off a prolonged period of lethargy and beginning to fire on all cylinders.

From FoxNews
By Lt. Col. Oliver North American soldiers trapped him like a cornered rat hiding in a hole. And when he was caught, Saddam Hussein, the blustering, bloody tyrant who asked others to die for him, didn’t even try to defend himself with the weapons at his disposal.
Just days before the capture, I interviewed Maj. Gen. Ray Odierno, commanding general of the 4th Infantry Division, who told me that his troops would find Saddam near Tikrit. They did. But what the general didn’t predict was that the apprehension of this mass murderer would apparently drive many Democrats and their friends in the media around the bend.
The day after Saddam was videotaped being examined for lice by a U.S. Army doctor, Howard Dean, the front-runner among the nine Democrat presidential candidates, declared, “The capture of Saddam Hussein is good news for the Iraqi people and the world. Saddam was a brutal dictator who should be brought swiftly to justice for his crimes.”
All true. But then Dr. Dean, who once mused aloud about whether President Bush knew about the 9/11 attack before it happened, went on to say that he remains opposed to what we’re doing in Iraq because, “The administration launched the war in the wrong way, at the wrong time, with inadequate planning, insufficient help, and at an unbelievable cost.”
The former Vermont governor followed this intellectual inconsistency with a schizophrenic assertion that: “The capture of Saddam is a good thing which I hope very much will help keep our soldiers safer. But the capture of Saddam has not made America safer.” How America could be no safer with the Butcher of Baghdad behind bars was not explained.

"With no weapons, no ties, and no truth, the capture of Saddam was merely the most massive and irresponsible police raid in modern times. We broke in without a search warrant... Civilian deaths constituted justifiable homicide. America was again above the law. We have taught the next generation that many wrongs equal a right. In arrogance, we boasted, 'We got him!'. The shame is that we feel none for how we got him. The capture of this dictator, driven by the poison of lies, turned America itself into a dictator." - Boston Globe Columnist Derrick Z. This is an e-mail from my friend Dr. Love. I thought it was worth posting. BTW he lives in Mississippi.
I regret to inform you that, effective immediately, I will no longer serve the States of Georgia, Florida , North and South Carolina ,Tennessee , Mississippi , Kentucky, or Indiana on Christmas Eve.
Due to the overwhelming current population of the earth, my contract was renegotiated by North American Fairies and Elves Local 209. As part of the new and better contract, I also get longer breaks for milk and cookies so keep that in mind. More... Posted by: Spazticus on Dec 18, 03 | 10:37 am | Profile

Kevin’s brother, Orville Wrong, designed the plane to originally hold only a naked woman. Brother Kevin, who considers himself a woman in a mans body, argued successfully that he should be allowed to pilot the plane rather then Betty Bimbopulous, the original naked mud wrestling pilot. After the crash, Kevin was quoted at saying. "We’ll, at least I can still get naked and run around the hills grabbing greased pigs." The crowd that had gathered, upon hearing Kevin Wrong's plans, quickly dispersed except for Betty Bimbopulous who was sent to buy a pig.

Skank Whore of the Day: Madeleine Albright
WASHINGTON — Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright (search) insisted Wednesday that she was just kidding when she wondered aloud whether the Bush administration is holding Usama bin Laden (search) captive, waiting to break him out at the best political moment.
It was a "tongue-in-cheek comment and was not intended in any other way," Albright told Fox News.
But witnesses to Albright's comment said the ambassador did not appear to be joking Tuesday when she suggested President Bush may reveal bin Laden's capture as an "October surprise" (search) before next November's presidential election.

[1] comments (270 views) | [0] Trackbacks [0] Pingbacks Now the fun begins for Saddam: Interrogation With Pointy Sticks!
From the New York Daily News
WASHINGTON - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld made it clear yesterday that Saddam Hussein is not classified as a prisoner of war - and that's bad news for the ex-dictator. Legal experts said that denying Saddam POW status is a calculated move to allow the CIA to take extreme measures to get him to cough up information.
POWs cannot be subjected to rough interrogations, put on trial or executed, according to the 1949 Geneva Conventions, of which the U.S. is a signer.
Saddam's location remained top-secret yesterday, although sources have said he is still in Iraq. When seen Sunday by Iraqi government officials, he was not manacled or wearing a prison uniform.
But that was before the serious interrogation began.

Gore's Liberal TV Network Blocked
In his most humiliating setback since his failed coup attempt of 2000, Al Gore is seeing his dreams of creating yet another left-wing media outlet fall like chads from the hands of a ballot-twisting Florida Democrat recount activist.
Thank Barry Diller, who despite Gore's begging is refusing to lift his veto over the sale of the News World International cable network from Vivendi Universal Entertainment, the New York Post reported this week.

Dr. Howard Dean is a fucking wuss. In this brilliant piece (also displayed in full in "More of this Spew") by Mark Steyn, we see the blase' attitude that Dean displays when it comes to subjects like Bin Laden, Hussein and stupid stuff like national security. While I don't think all pacifists are wussy, Dr. Dean is a big angry puffy wanker who is more concerned with bike paths that with the security and future of America. Can he be elected? Probably. Hell, we almost elected Al "Howdy Doody All Grown Up" Gore, so sure, he has a chance. America is full of lunatics. More... Posted by: FloridaBill on Dec 17, 03 | 7:31 am | Profile
