Sigma Nu Fraternity Kappa Delta Chapter

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – July 16th, 2014

The Kappa Delta Chapter of The Sigma Nu Fraternity is pleased to announce it is the recipient of the Rock Chapter Award presented by the General Fraternity! This award is given to chapters of The Sigma Nu Fraternity across the nation that achieve excellent ratings in all aspects of chapter operations as part of the Pursuit of Excellence Program.

At the 66th Grand Chapter held this year in Nashville, Tennessee, 19 total chapters were given Rock Chapter status. They are:

 Duquesne University  Case Western Reserve University  Columbia University (NYC)  Colorado State  Oklahoma State  Wofford College  Duke University  Georgia Institute of Technology  Stevenson Institute of Technology  University of Minnesota  Butler University  Virginia Wesleyan  James Madison University  Appalachian State  Washington and Lee University  University of Georgia  South East Missouri State University  Texas Tech  University of California, Davis

To be granted the award, a chapter must excel across a broad range of areas of fraternity operations. Once granted, the award should not be considered recognition for future achievement (i.e. once a Rock Chapter, always a Rock Chapter), but rather recognition for past achievement with an appropriate date inscribed indicating the precise year, which the award represents. The Rock Chapter award is only presented at Grand Chapters, (i.e. every two years), providing there are chapters that qualify.

Rock Chapter award recipients will be those chapters, which consistently achieve very good to excellent ratings in the Pursuit of Excellence Program over the course of the biennium.

The criteria for attaining Rock Chapter status are as follows:

1. The Rock Chapter can be presented only to collegiate chapters of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. 2. The Rock Chapter award is presented for overall excellence in eleven areas of fraternity operations – recruitment, candidate education, alumni, finances, chapter home, social program, scholarship, chapter organization, campus leadership, inter-fraternity participation, and community service. 3. A chapter must demonstrate that it has achieved excellence in all eleven categories over a period of at least three consecutive years, and only the third year is to be considered the year in which the award is earned. 4. Once granted, the recipient will be considered a “Rock Chapter” only for that particular year in which the chapter actually earned the award (see above), not for the year forthcoming, and the plaque will be so inscribed.

Kappa Delta has been working extremely hard since re-Colonization in 2009 to achieve excellence in all aspects of its operation. When the Chapter re-Chartered in 2012, the new brothers established multiple goals, along with short and long-term strategic plans. Under these strategic plans, Kappa Delta was the recipient of the Presidents Cup at Duquesne University, which is given to the Most Outstanding Fraternity on Campus, in 2013 and 2014.

The Kappa Delta Chapter would like to thank and congratulate Duquesne Greek Life Advisor, Rebecca Jamrozik-Mickler, for all of her guidance over the years. Because of her dedication to our Chapter, Rebecca was awarded the Greek Advisor of the Year award from The Sigma Nu Fraternity at Grand Chapter.

The Kappa Delta Chapter would also like to thank Chapter advisors Rod Dobish and Academic Advisor Father John Sawicki, CSSp. Without their guidance, Kappa Delta would not exist as it does today.

And finally, thank you to all Brothers, current and alumni, who have been part of Kappa Delta history.

To Believe in the Life of Love, To Walk in the Way of Honor, To Serve in the Light of Truth, This is the Life, the Way, and the Light of Sigma Nu, This is the Creed of Our Fraternity.
