Meeting Was Called to Order on September 26, 2016 by Lindsay Holmes. She Welcomed Everyone

PTO Minutes 9/26/16

Meeting was called to order on September 26, 2016 by Lindsay Holmes. She welcomed everyone and the pledge of allegiance was done.

Mrs. McKinney gave the principal’s report. Baseline assessments have been completed. The results are above what they expected. Please make sure your kids are doing I-Ready at home when they can. She said Parent University was a success! She has received a lot of great comments. She also mentioned the Book fair, open for the week of October 10-14 and Grits with Grandparents on October 13 and 14 th. Tentatively the date for the Boosterthon is February 15, 2017. Lastly, she thanked everyone for all their support.

We had a guest speaker Donna Short, who talked about the Bullying Prevention Plan. She handed out a pamphlet “Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Bullying.” This pamphlet, along with a TES Bully Prevention Outline 2016-2017 is available in the front office. Throughout the school year, there will be certain months that focus on a different topic of bullying; for example, in January is the Pip-Squeak Anti-Bullying Show. Mrs. Short let us know any bullying reporting is anonymous and provided the guidelines to report any bullying seen at Tavares Elementary School.

Mrs. Deleo updated us on the Fall Fundraiser. All money is in. Approximately $10,441 was raised and 40% of that will go towards PTO. Overall, it was a great success and the items will arrive around the middle of November. We will need volunteers to help sort the items and pass out.

Mrs. Showe talked about an order form for shirts going out shortly. She was waiting to hear back about the GROWL logo. Once she had everything she needed she would send out an order form to staff and parents. She let us know they added a white GROWL shirt and a women’s V-neck style polo with no buttons.

Mrs. Lemoyne gave the balance, which is unofficially $16,733.47. She stated a few more items needed to clear. Mrs. Lemoyne brought to the meeting a motion to use some money to provide meals on report card night for the teachers. Mrs. Butts made a motion to purchase meals for the teachers on report card night and Mrs. Phillips second the motion and it was approved.

Mrs. Deleo gave an update on Box Tops. There is $290.94 in the account. The next time to submit will be December. Please make sure the expiration dates are up to date. They do not accept expired Box Tops. She did mention there will be a prize for turning in a full sheet of Box Tops. The cutoff will be October 21st to submit Box Tops for the December deadline. She also mentioned Chik-fil-A calendars are back! They are available for $8.00. We only have a limited supply so it is first come, first serve.

Mrs. Phillips brought to the meeting a request to purchase personalized pencils for those in grades 3-5 as incentives for IStation and IReady competitions. $54.99/tax for 288 pencils. Request was approved.

Mrs. Hicks gave the dates of the Book Fair 10/10-10/14 and asked for volunteers. She also requested a box of headsets 30/box at $10 a headset. No decision was made whether or not to purchase.

Kate Kelly talked about Fall Staff Appreciation. She would like to do a small something before break, around November 17th. If you have any ideas or would like to help, contact her.

Next meeting will be October 24, 2016 at 4:30 pm and SAC at 5:30 pm. Meeting was adjourned at 4:59 pm.
