Physical Education: Rules, Policies and Expectations 2016 – 2017 School Year (6th, 7th, and 8th Grades)

Rules:

1) Students are expected to:

a. Come to class on time and be fully prepared.

b. Follow instructions when and how they are given.

c. Show respect through speech, body language, and attitude toward the instructor, other students, and themselves.

d. Keep all electronic devices and back packs out of the Gymnasium and locker room.

e. Be GUM FREE! (Gum is prohibited in the Gymnasium, the locker room, and throughout the class. It is dangerous to be chewing gum during a class such as Physical Education.)

Attire:

1) The Physical Education attire consists of loose athletic clothing which will allow for full mobility in any activity. Jeans are not permitted as they restrict movement. Below is a list of acceptable attire.

a. Shorts

b. Sweat pants

c. T-shirts

d. Sweat shirts

e. Socks

f. Sneakers

**ALL JEWELRY MUST BE REMOVED PRIOR TO THE START OF CLASS…STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR JEWELRY** **ALL ATTIRE MUST BE SCHOOL, SIZE, AND WEATHER APPROPRIATE** 2) Students MUST change into clothes for Physical Education. Clothes that a student is wearing throughout the school day will not be permitted.

3) Students are responsible for dressing appropriately for the weather. Classes will be held outdoors and students are expected to dress accordingly.

4) Sneakers are to be tied correctly throughout the duration of the class from beginning to end.

5) Full compliance is expected for credit.

Late Policy:

1) Students will have five (5) minutes from the start bell to be seated properly in their assigned position.

2) To receive full credit, students are expected be fully changed and in their assigned position at the start of attendance.

Excused:

1) In order to be excused from a Physical Education class, a note from a parent is required.

2) If more than two classes will be missed, a doctor’s note is required.

3) In the case that a student is excused long-term, participation is still expected.

c. Student Aid 4) Excused students will receive a grade based on their performance just as those participating students are receiving a grade. Disruptions caused to the class by excused students will be reflected in their grade.

5) Written assignments may be given to students who are excused long-term.

6) A doctor’s note is required to return to class following a long-term excuse.

Unprepared(s):

1) For every three (3) unprepareds a student receives, the End of the Marking Period grade will drop one (1) letter grade. (Each unprepared is 3.3 points off of a student’s End of Marking Period grade.)

2) In the case that a student is unprepared, that student is still expected to participate.

c. Student Aid

3) Unprepared students will receive a grade based on their performance just as those participating students are receiving a grade. Disruptions caused to the class by unprepared students will be reflected in their grade.

4) Written assignments may be given to students who are unprepared.

Grading:

1) Students will receive a Daily Grade. The Daily Grade will be determined by the following categories:

a. Preparation (Attire, Jewelry off, etc.)

b. Participation/ Effort/ Following Instructions/ Following Procedures (Talking at inappropriate times, etc.)

c. Cognitive Development (Knowledge, Applying knowledge, Progress, etc.)

d. Closure (Equipment clean up; etc.)

Electronics:

1) All electronic devices (Cellular phone, iPod, etc.) are prohibited from entering the Gymnasium/Locker Room.

2) Any devices that are found in use, on a student’s person, or ringing will be confiscated to the office where the student may retrieve it at the end of the school day. Bags:

1) All back packs and purses are to be placed outside of the Gymnasium doors prior to entering the Gymnasium.

2) This applies to ALL students:

a. Prepared

b. Unprepared

c. Excused (Short/Long Term) Safety:

1) Students are expected to follow safety procedures exactly as they are explained to them in class for the varying activities that they are exposed to.

2) Students are expected to apply / follow these procedures each and every day as the information is received and built upon.
