Congratulations! You’ve made an important decision to take a specialized college class (for credit!) that will help you develop critical skills for continued postsecondary education and/or will help you pursue new job opportunities. Before you get started though, we want to be sure you understand some important aspects of taking COL 120.

Please initial beside each statement below, indicating you have read and understand the information. (Have questions? Contact Sharon Brown, Program Assistant for Technical Skills for Success, at 864-646-2056; [email protected].)

You will receive a copy of this form for your records. Initials Statement

1. Tuition, fees, textbook, and parking decal costs are covered for you for this course. (There is no cost for a student ID.) You will need to cover all other costs – like transportation, child care, etc. There is no financial aid to help you with these costs.

2. If you incur any debts to TCTC (late/lost library book fine, parking ticket, etc.), you are responsible for paying them right away. Payment for fines are accepted at the Cashier’s Office in Miller Hall. For other payment options, visit http://www.tctc.edu/x1043.xml (Scroll down until you see “How to Pay Your Tuition.”)

3. You will receive a 1098T form from TCTC for your 2016 tax purposes. The form will reflect the amount of the scholarship you received to take this course.

4. COL 120 is a real college course – you will receive a final grade. The course (and final grade) will appear on an official TCTC transcript.

5. If you withdraw from COL 120, or if you are withdrawn by the instructor for excessive absences, or if you fail the course, there will be an impact on any federal financial aid you may qualify for, should you decide to attend Tri- County later in a credit major (associate degree, postsecondary diploma or qualifying certificate program)—i.e., you will start your first term in a Financial Aid Warning status.

6. You will NOT be required to pay the normal $30 application fee if you decide to apply for admission to Tri-County Technical College in a credit program (associate degree, postsecondary diploma or certificate) within two terms of successfully completing COL 120. (“Two terms” means the two semesters following the term in which you took COL 120. “Successfully completing COL 120” means earning a final grade of A, B, C, or D.)

7. You will earn 3.0 credit hours for successfully completing COL 120. The final grade you earn will affect your overall GPA, which will be reflected on your TCTC transcript. The credit you earn for the course may be applied to a TCTC associate degree as an elective, with approval of your academic advisor or department head. The transferability of COL 120 is determined by the four-year college or university to which you apply and enroll.

8. The official course description for COL 120 (as approved by the South Carolina Technical College System) is: This course builds skills and habits of mind for college and work success. Students will accomplish academic and job tasks using problem-solving and teamwork, apply personal responsibility, use learning strategies, explore STEM careers, and earn a skill award appropriate for entry-level work.

9. You will attend classes on the following schedule:  Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays  Time: 9:35 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.  Dates: Tues., January 10, 2017 – Tues., May 2, 2017  (You would attend both days per week for the times and dates listed.)  Location: Pendleton Campus, room to be determined

10. You will be classified as a “Non-Degree Seeking” student in order to enroll in COL 120. College staff will handle registration details, once you submit a completed free application form. The Non-Degree Seeking classification enables you to take a course at Tri-County without being admitted into a College major (associate degree, postsecondary diploma or certificate program). You will receive information during COL 120 about continuing your education at TCTC, if you are interested in doing so.

11. As a Non-Degree Seeking student at TCTC, you have the same rights, responsibilities, and privileges of any Tri-County Technical College student. You will also have access to eTC, a personalized, online account that connects you to all College information and services and to your College email account.

12. By enrolling in COL 120 as a Non-Degree Seeking student, you are confirming that you have a high school credential (diploma or GED), that you have not or will not register for additional TCTC courses during the same term in which you are enrolled in COL 120, that you are not currently enrolled in a high school or adult education program, that you understand no financial aid is available for students in a Non-Degree Seeking classification, and that if you drop or withdraw from COL 120 (or never attend after being registered), any refunds of tuition, fees or other costs will be made to the institution and not to you personally.

13. Students in COL 120 may be asked to participate in one or more brief activities for College outreach or research initiatives and/or to participate in Public Relations activities that could involve photographs or video.

14. Please sign up for emergency text messaging as soon as you can access your eTC account. (Instructions are provided when you log in. Look for “Emergency Notification Number.”)

15. Be sure you have an Academic Calendar for the semester – http://www.tctc.edu/x1059.xml. Note any dates where classes will not be held!

16. Note Student Parking areas on the Pendleton Campus Map: http://www.tctc.edu/x870.xml

17. Read Inclement Weather Procedures: http://www.tctc.edu/Campus_Safety/Inclement_Weather_Notifications.xml (You should receive notices via text message when you sign up in the Emergency Notification system.)

Again, if you have questions or need help with anything prior to or during your COL 120 experience, contact Sharon Brown, Program Assistant for Technical Skills for Success, at 864-646-2056; [email protected] or contact your COL 120 instructor. We’re looking forward to a great class this semester – and we’re excited to have you join us!

I have read carefully the information provided in this document. I understand that being enrolled in COL 120 means I have the same rights, responsibilities, and privileges of any Tri-County Technical College student.
