Book Week Scotland 2016 is taking place from Monday 21 November. A week on Monday! This is a week-long celebration of books and reading and we have a packed programme with loads of exciting events and activities for all in school. Look out for:

Brand New Book to Film Club, beginning on Monday 21 November, with the film Alice in Wonderland. From 3.30pm, in the library, with popcorn too. If you are interested in seeing the film, please sign up in the library.

Itsy Bitsy Book Bits is not to be missed. Ms O’Reilly, Mr Davies and Mrs Reynolds will each read from the new Wimpy Kid book (which has been signed by the author) at lunchtimes Tues 22 –Thurs 24.

Staff Selfies on display all week. What are they reading? Which book would you choose?

Christmas Book Fair all week in the library. Get ahead and get your Christmas shopping planned.

Bestselling author Sara Sheridan will be in school to work with S4 pupils.

The exciting finish to the week is THE BIG INTER-HOUSE BOOK QUIZ on Friday 25 th with 6 teams in a Quick-Fire Quiz. Hosted by Mr McWhirter and led by House Leaders. Can the staff team be beaten? Can Gordon House make it a hat trick? Do not miss the music, the tartan, the books and the fun. Names of the house teams and the staff team will be revealed soon.

Plus, competitions, challenges and displays all week. Let’s get buzzing about Book Week.

Speaker’s Corner today has Aidan Henderson in S2. Please support Aidan as he tells us all about the Acting World. In the library from 1.20pm.

Children in Need This year Children in need will be Friday 18th November. In order to raise as much money as possible we will be having a casual clothes day on the 18th. We would love to see as many people dressed as creative as possible. Can we ask anyone out of school uniform to bring a £1 donation for children in need. The fundraising committee will also be holding a fair in the hall throughout the day with various stalls, games. Please bring a donation to get involved. There will also be Pudsey ears and wristbands for sale on the day.

S6 Fundraising Committee will be coming round registration classes until the 11th of November selling poppies so make sure to have your money ready! The suggested donation is £1.

REMEMBRANCE ASSEMBLIES Assemblies will take place on Friday 11 November as follows: Period 1 – S1 Period 2 – S2 Period 3 – S3 Period 4 – S4 Period 5 – S5/6 It is anticipated that these assemblies will last approximately 20-25 minutes. Interval will be from 10.40-10.55, to allow students and staff time to be back in class and settled for the two-minute silence at 11.00am. S3 classes should be accompanied to the hall for their assembly immediately after the two-minute silence. Thank you.

S1/S2 Cookery Club Cookery club will run on Thursday at 3.20pm-4.20pm it will cost £1.00 and you will need a tub. Sign up in the HE department ASAP.

S1/S2 rugby team has a match on Thursday Nov 17th in the afternoon at Elgin Academy. More details see Mr Kelly.

Instructions for the S3 Parents’ Evenings have been issued via registration today. There are two evenings- 24th November for those with surnames A to L and the 30th November for those with surnames M to Z. Only those with surnames A to L will be able to book at present. Please ensure the instructions are issued to parents at the earliest opportunity. (AW)

Young Scot Cards - From 1st January 2017 all 16-18 year olds will need a newer version of the Young Scot National Entitlement Card to access reduced bus and rail fares. Young Scot and The Moray Council are working to upgrade as many cards held by 15-18 year olds as soon as possible.

If your Young Scot National Entitlement Card has a pink strip over the date of birth you do NOT need to have your card upgraded and do not need to anything else.

If your Young Scot National Entitlement Card does NOT have a pink strip over the date of birth your card needs to be upgraded.

How do I get my card upgraded? Your card will be automatically renewed and you do not need to do anything. However, if you would like to update the photograph on your card please provide your school office with one passport type colour photograph by Wednesday 16 th November 2016. The photograph should be a close-up of your head. Please do not wear a hat or head covering (unless for religious reasons) or have your hood up or wear dark glasses.

Do I need to do anything when I receive my new card? When you receive your new card you need to take it into the school office so it can be activated for the cashless catering system. Your old card will continue to work in the cashless catering system until your new card is activated, after then it can be destroyed as from January 2017 it will no longer be valid.

When will I receive my new card? Replacement cards should arrive by post to your home address by 9 January 2017. If you have not received your card by this date please contact The Moray Council by telephoning 01343 563200 or by emailing [email protected]
