Dear Parents and Guardians s6

July 12, 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am excited to serve as the new Cora L. Rice Elementary School principal!

Though I am new to your school community, I am not new to Prince George’s County Public Schools. I began my teaching career as an educator at Longfields Elementary, taught eighth-grade math at G. James Gholson Middle School and served in other capacities, including teacher development and school leadership. Prior to this appointment, I was the principal of Francis Scott Key Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore City Public Schools.

I am an advocate for education. Teaching is not just what I do, it is who I am. Helping our students achieve at their highest potential is my goal. I believe that education is the key that opens the door to endless possibilities and it is our responsibility, as educators, to make sure every student has a key. Students deserve our best effort. I want to assure you that every decision I make will be in the best interest of our students. As the old African Proverb states, “It takes a village to raise a child.”

As the start of a new school year draws near, I want to equip our students with the necessary tools for success. It is important that students attend school every day, ready to learn and make Cora L. Rice Elementary the best school in the county.

Please join me on July 31 for a “Meet and Greet” from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This is an opportunity to meet me and my administrative team before the start of school.

Again, I am excited for this opportunity. I cannot wait to share with you the great things our students will learn and experience this year.

If you have any concerns, suggestions or ideas to help make this the best school year ever, please contact me at [email protected] or 301-636-6340.

I look forward to meeting you soon.

Sincerely,

Mickelli Dunn Principal
