Attendance: Your presence in class is essential to your success. Unlike some disciplines where you might be able to get lecture notes or simply read the material that was covered in order to be caught up when you’ve missed a class, a foreign language class is different. The speaking and listening in Spanish that happens during the class period cannot be made up. IF ABSENT, you may make-up ONLY absences excused from the office. You will have 3 days to make- work, and on the 3rd day, it becomes a zero. If you are absent from class on the day that an assignment is due to be turned in, it is your responsibility to bring it to me on the very next day that you are back to school. Homework will be assigned on a regular basis. The completion of these homework assignments is crucial to your success in the class. No credit is given if: late or wrong assignment, incomplete assignment, or excessive errors. In the case of excessive errors, you may be asked to redo the assignment in order to receive credit. Internet access is required for some assignments. Students who do not have Internet access at home can use the library or attend English tutoring in the C222 computer to complete these assignments.

Tests / Quizzes – Assessments can be given about once every 1-2 weeks in order to determine what each student has learned. Tests and quizzes make up a large portion of the overall grade, therefore it is very important to perform the best that you can. Writing and spelling is an important part of the quizzes and tests.

Materials students will need 5 dividers (vocabulary, notes, classwork, homework, misc) within a 3-ring binder for organizing materials. This binder CAN be shared with other classes.

Make-up tests or quizzes are done by appointment. In terms of making up missed assignments, an assignment can be made up if the absence is excused and the student generally has as many days to make up the assignment as he or she was absent. A zero is given for any assignments that are not made up within a reasonable amount of time.

Extra help is available after school. Students should feel comfortable coming in to ask questions on assignments or concepts. The following is the tutoring schedule for Spanish students: Time: 2:15-3:15 Locations: Mon C212 / Tues.C220 / Wed. C214 / Thur. C213

Honors- Students that are in an Honors section will be held to a higher standard of attendance, behavior and work ethic. “Honors” means the course is one of high distinction. The course has a quicker pace and requires more independent preparation.
