The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet Essay Directions

Basic Directions You are going to write an essay over the different character types in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. I am going to provide you a thesis statement (main idea of your essay), topics for each of your 3 body paragraphs, and a graphic organizer to complete that will help you organize your thoughts.

Essay Breakdown Your introduction will restate the title (underlined or italics!) and author of the play. It will also contain necessary background information of the play. It should include the following generic thesis: “There are many different character types in the drama The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet including round and flat, static and dynamic, and a dramatic foil.” (Hint: the thesis is the last sentence in your introduction). Body Paragraph 1 will discuss round and flat characters. Use specific examples. Body Paragraph 2 will discuss static and dynamic characters. Use specific examples. Body Paragraph 3 will discuss a dramatic foil. Use specific examples. Your conclusion will summarize your main points and restate your thesis (in different words).

Part One – Pre-writing. Complete the attached pre-writing graphic organizer. The purpose of the graphic organizer is to organize your ideas before actually writing your essay.

Part Two – Essay. Using the pre-writing as a road map, write your essay. Remember to use detailed examples from the story!
