Bio for Senator Julia Boseman
Senator Julia Boseman is a lifetime resident of Wilmington, North Carolina. Not only did she attend our local public schools, but she is also a former Seahawk. The Senator graduated from UNC Wilmington in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Finance, and then went on to get her Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University in 1992. Currently, in addition to her senatorial role she is a practicing real estate attorney in Wilmington.
The Senator is committed to public service and has served on the UNCW Board of Visitors from 2001 to 2005, and on the Seahawk Club Board of Directors from 1998 to 2002. She is a staunch supporter of our athletic programs as well and attends as many athletic events as her busy schedule permits. Other public service commitments she has made include four years as New Hanover County Commissioner from 2000-2004, the last year serving as Vice Chair to the Commission. Senator Boseman also served as a member of the New Hanover Regional Medial Centers’ Board of Trustees.
During the last legislative session, Senator Boseman was responsible for introducing several major bills that protect students as well as other citizens of our State. The School Violence Prevention Act (SL 2009-212) and Strengthen Domestic Violence Law (SL 2009-425). During the 2007 session, she was responsible for introducing SL 2007-375, Increasing Safe Zones Around Schools.
Currently the Senator is working hard to prepare for the upcoming General Assembly session that begins in May. By serving on a number of committees she is able to have information and impact on a number of areas. During the interim she is Chair of the Domestic Violence Committee, is an advisory member to the Transportation Committee, co-chair of the Education/Higher Education sub-committee.
