Meet our Autumn student teachers

Miss DuPuy

Mrs. Donland

Mr. Coupland

Mr. Loder

Our Student Teachers Pictures and story by Elise DuBois and Evangeline Murphy We interviewed all the student teachers who were here at the beginning of the school year. One of the student teachers we interviewed was Mr.Loder. He lives in Richmondville and is 22 years old. He is thinking about teaching 4th or 5th grade. Mr. Loder goes to College at St. Rose in Albany. He has one sister named Courtney and a dog named Katie. Mr. Loder wants to be a teacher because he loves kids. He says it is rewarding to work with kids. Mrs. Donland was another student teacher in Greenville Central School District. Mrs. Donland lives in Preston Hollow. She is 29 years old and she has 2 dogs, 2 rabbits,5 ducks, and 1 fish. Miss DePuy is from Saugerties and is 28 years old and has one half sister, Sheri. She went to college at New Paltz and loves doing all things art. Her favorite season is fall. Miss DuPuy used to have a cat. We didn’t ask why she doesn’t have it anymore. She likes helping and being creative, both good things for an art teacher. Mr. Coupland lives n Albany and has a sister, Elizabeth, a gold fish and a cat. His favorite animal is the honey badger. Mr. Coupland wants to teach 3rd, 4th, or 5th grades and he thinks that Autumn is the best time of the year because sometimes it’s warm and sometimes it’s cold. Mr. Coupland goes to the College of St. Rose.

The King’s Ball

By Hailey Mason

August, a king, was sitting on his throne planning a ball for his lovely daughter, Summer. Summer had long blonde hair and beautiful brown eyes. Any prince would want to marry such a beautiful princess like her! The next day a letter was sent to every king and queen in the country. The letter said, “Dear Kings and Queens,I, King Dominic, am planning a ball for my lovely Princess Summer. If you have a son please bring him to the ball tomorrow night at five thirty.” When the letters were finished, King Dominic sent his servant Mary to get a sparkling long dress for the ball. The next night, Summer was wondering what all the carriages were doing outside the castle. She went down toWhat’s the library where cooking? she found her father looking out the window observing all the kings, queens and young princesBy Fiona walking Haggerty in to the castle. King Dominic turned around and gave Summer her dress. She put it on and went down to the ballroom and went to sit in the throne. Recently, Mrs. Bear’s class and Mrs. Asam’s class participated in a classroom cooking event. Why did our classes do this? We cooked and baked to work on strands on the New York State Math Standards; to work on our nutritional Meetunit and its connectionRobert to the Mancuso standards. We also wanted to work as a community with another class. Mrs. Bear’s goal is to have each one of the 3-4 classes be in her room with her class to work on a lesson connected with the New York State Standards. By Liam Williams

Robert Mancuso is a student in Mr. Haller’s fifth grade. His birthday is August 12th and he likes pizza and the color black. Robert says his nickname is Wobat. Did your sister, Gianna, give you that nickname? Robert’s favorite movie is, “Falconry,” and his favorite song is, Dutch Barbie Girl.” Look out for this spot in the next newsletter to learn about another of the students in our school community. Get to know Mrs. Parvis By Joan McAneny and Maddie Tremblay

Mrs. Robin Parvis is a fifth grade teacher and we learned so much about her! One thing that you probably didn’t know about Mrs. Parvis is that her middle name is Michelle and she has a stepson, Matthew. And, did you know that her favorite colors are green, blue and white? When she isn’t teaching, Mrs. Parvis is a nutritionist. She has conducted classes here for teachers and staff members about healthy eating and living. Her favorite foods are veggies, beans and olive oil. In her spare time, Mrs. Parvis does yoga and even has a yoga sticker on the back of her Red Mazda Tribute. She is a fan of movies, and likes 3D movies and she likes to read. Her favorite season is summer when she can be on white sandy beaches. Mrs. Parvis also loves St. Patrick’s Day. Is that because her birthday is March 4th which is near St. Patrick’s Day? We wonder. And since she loves the English Language Arts, her favorite word is onomatopoeia. If you don’t know what that means, go do some research! We hope you enjoyed learning about Mrs. Parvis. Stay tuned next time for inside info on another teacher!

Changes and health issues By September Brockett Lunch this year has changed since last year. This year the cafeteria serves apple donuts. At Greenville we would like to see kids taking a fruit or veggie at lunch time or if you don’t buy lunch ask your mom or dad to put in something healthy. If you make your own lunch then put in something healthy in your own lunch box.. Some things have improved and some things have not. I think the school has had a big makeover because we have the new elevator and we are trying to help kids stay healthy. With this swine flu going around you can never be too careful. Many people have already died from the swine flu, but not in our school. Just a simple cold could be a sign of the swine flu, so be careful. Wash your hands and do everything to stay healthy. Don’t wear other peoples’ hats or use their brushes. Also after you touch money wash your hands well. Do not drink other peoples’ drinks. Don’t wash your hands too much because you have good germs that fight the bad germs so you don’t get sick. There are also cells in your body called white blood cells. The white blood cells fight bad germs. Another kind of cell is the red blood cells. The red blood cells carry oxygen to the lungs. Each drop of blood contains over100 red blood cells. Without scabs you would bleed to death, so be happy you have scabs. Don’t pick them off because you know that when you do, you start to bleed just like I told you! Recommended classic books By Jude Kappel

Classics are recommended for grades 3, 4, and 5. A classic recommended is “Holes,” by Louis Sachar. Listen to this paragraph and see what you think. I know you might think classics are old stories but classics aren’t boring. I know there might me some boring names like “Dogsong,” but it doesn’t mean the story is boring. It isn’t! “Holes” is a good book. Sometimes it takes you away from the main story, but it is interesting nevertheless. My favorite part is when Stanley, the main character, is sent to the boys detention center, Camp Green Lake. I won’t tell you anymore! Read it and see for yourself what happens! Ask Dr. Kind Dear Dr. Kind, Why are there “night” animals and “day” animals? Abby

Dear Abby, Animals are active at different hours depending on what they need to survive. Many diurnal (day) animals need sunlight to stay warm and find food. Some animals, however, can’t bear much sun. Those animals are often nocturnal (active at night). Cool, dark skies hide them from heat – and from animals who may want to hunt them. In the daytime, nocturnal animals sleep underground, in shade, or in caves. So, how do nocturnal animals find their way around at night? Many have long whiskers or big ears or eyes-all the better to feel, hear, or see with. Because animals are active around the clock, ask drivers to be careful. Critters are always crossing! Sincerely, Dr. Kind ------MISSION: HUMANE is a nationwide group of young people working to help animals where they need it most. You can be part of it too!

YOU can take part in Mission:Humane as a club, class, or on your own. Before going it alone, think about starting an animal protection club at your school, church, community center, or with friends in your neighborhood or scout group. We know that you can do a lot for animals. Think about how much you can do with other young people who care! Go to http://www.kindnews.org/Mission_Humane/default.asp
