Part 1 Research the production of crude oil in Canada. Write a short report to explain where crude oil is found and what its main uses are. Choose a product made from crude oil (you can use this website to choose a product if you wish): http://www.anwr.org/features/oiluses.htm

Once you have chosen your product, confirm with the teacher that it is acceptable. Research the environmental impacts of the production, use and disposal of your chosen product and include your findings in your report.

Your report must include:  Production of crude oil  Where crude oil is found in Canada  Main uses of crude oil  Environmental impact of crude oil product production  Environmental impact of crude oil product uses  Environmental impact of crude oil product disposal  references

Part 2 Research a material or product used in daily life that is made from organic compounds. Discuss (in a few paragraphs) the benefits of the product for society, and the health hazards it may pose.

Some options: synthetic fabrics, drugs, pesticides, organic solvents, car parts, artificial hearts…..there are many possibilities.

Keep in mind – this isn’t just a product of crude oil, but a product made from any organic substance.

Your report must include:  A short description of your chosen product  Use and benefits to society  Any potential health hazards  references
