Department of Pediatrics

About the Department:

The glory of the Department of Pediatrics started way back to the era of Dr.Indira Bai who was called as the mother of Pediatrics. During her tenure this department was a special icon in the WHO world health map. She served as the National President of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics ( IAP ) from this department. Next prominent successors who were instrumental in the development of the department , Dr.MVG Subramanyam, Dr.Rani, Dr.DPNMV Ratna Malika, Dr.Sarada Mani and Dr.NMA Salam.

The existing New Pediatric Hospital was the dream project of many. But the person who made it reality was Dr.A.Arumugam with the extended help of our beloved Hon’ble Member of Parliament Dr.Chinta Mohan. This building was constructed under National Rural Health Mission funds. The succccessors Dr. NS Raghupathy and Dr. K. Syam Prasad helped a lot to flourish the department.

The department was started with 30 beds as a single unit and now it blossomed to 300 beds spread into 4 units with additional exclusive NICU, SNCU, NRC and PICU. At present it is rendering all tertiary care services on par with corporate hospitals to the poorest of the poor needy sick children. Every year 10 MDs and 4 DCH postgraduates are joining for the course.
