Mrs. Fetters’ Classroom Procedures and Policies
Parents, please read the following very carefully and sign at the end that you have read all of our procedures and agree to the policies. I have listed my classroom rules, rewards, consequences, and policies. Please take time to read over them and also discuss them with your child. If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected] or call the school’s front office at (662)895-6664.
Classroom Rules
These rules are the main guidelines to success in our classroom.
1. Listen when your teacher is talking.
2. Follow directions quickly.
3. Raise your hand for permission to speak and to get out of your seat.
4. Respect others, respect yourself, and respect your school.
5. Make smart choices.
Classroom Behavior Plan
We will be using a clip system in our classroom to monitor student behavior. An example of our chart is shown below. All students will begin the day on “Ready to Learn”. Each student’s goal is to move their clip up by modeling good behavior in our classroom and around our school. If a student makes their way to “Outstanding”, they will be given a sticker on their clip. Once a student receives five stickers on their clip, the clip will change colors. Each student’s goal will be to make it through all of the colors of the rainbow. Please keep in mind that students may not move up in a day, and as long as they stay on “Ready to Learn” then they are displaying positive behavior. Rewards:
Students receive incentives and rewards in our classroom for a variety of reasons. I strive on creating and maintaining a positive environment. Therefore, I also focus on the positive behavior more so than the negative. When students make it to “Outstanding” they will be able to choose something from the *RoCkStAr JaR* and receive a sticker on their clip. Students are also given Champion Slips for outstanding behaviors displayed throughout the school day. Other rewards that may be given are: homework pass, computer time, sit with a friend at lunch, etc.
Consequences:
If students break a classroom rule, their clip will move down. However, all students do not respond to the same consequences in the same way. Therefore, consequences for each child must be different. Some examples of consequences are: loss of recess time (spent walking around the playground), students write a written reflection of behavior, silent lunch, call home, office visit, etc.
*Any serious discipline issues will be an automatic referral to the office.
Classroom Incentives: Our whole group incentive is the Classroom Marbles. This is something the students work together as a whole group to earn. A goal will be set for each nine weeks on how many marbles should be earned within that time and the class will take a vote on what their reward should be. The students can earn marbles for things such as receiving compliments from other school personnel, setting good examples for other students in the school, 100% participation for homework/weekly folder/other important documents, etc.
Daily Folder
Every day your child will bring home a folder in their backpack. In the folder you will find a calendar for the month. Every afternoon, your child will color their behavior in this chart. Please initial every night in the small box given for each date. Your signature states two things: 1) You have seen their behavior for that day, and 2) Your child has completed their homework for that day. The zipper pouch is a place of communication between you and I for any notes or paperwork, as well as money for specific events. You will also find in the folder a sheet protector with the weekly newsletter. If there are any papers that your child placed in the folder that day, please take them out and look over them and return if necessary.
Graded Paper Folder
Every Tuesday a folder will be sent home with your child’s completed/graded assignments. Please take the time to look at the schoolwork and discuss it with your child. There are also directions for correcting papers stapled inside. ALL graded papers and corrections must be sent back! I ask that you please sign and return the graded paper folder by Friday of each week. I will be keeping all students’ graded papers until the end of the school year. This will also serve as a weekly progress report.
Homework
Homework is an important tool for reinforcing what has been learned in class each week. I will be sending home a homework packet each week on Monday, and the packet is due on Fridays to be checked. Please make sure that your child is completing at least one sheet a night. If spelling is a part of homework, those assignments should be turned in with the packet on Friday. I often send an optional reading log often as a way for you to track your child’s at-home reading progress.
Supplies
Your child is required to have the materials listed on the Desoto County Supply List. Some materials will be combined together as community supplies for the class. These may need to be replenished from time to time throughout the year. In addition, our class could always use donations of the following items: bright colored printer paper, Kleenex, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, Post-It notes, individually wrapped candy, books, extra snacks, erasers, pencils, etc. I truly appreciate any donations you may be able to contribute!
Snack
When healthy snack choices are made, they provide the nutrients and calories kids need for growth, good health and energy to get through the day. Please pack your child a healthy snack to enjoy on a daily basis. Water is the only beverage allowed, and the bottle must have a secure lid. Snacks will be available for purchase as well-please see the Student Handbook for prices.
Clothing
It is important that your child wears tennis shoes for physical education so they are able to participate in all of the activities. I recommend that each student bring a sweater or sweatshirt at school in case of change in temperature, or when A/C is on in our room. Please wear jackets on cold days. We will go outside each day for recess if weather permits.
