Work Experience:

Prior to 1996 Mr. Donnelley did computer research (mostly computer security, networking, and operating systems, e.g. see: http://www.webstart.com/jed/Publications.html

) and group/project leading (e.g. leading a 10-12 person team in the development, installation, and support of a network operating system for a community of 3,000+ scientific users).

Since 1996 Mr. Donnelley has focused on systems administration:

1. 1996-1998 at Lawrence Livermore developing a Web interface to an Oracle database of engineering drawings for Livermore’s Engineering Records Center.

2. 1998-2002 at Berkeley Lab’s Berkeley site as a Web engineer supporting numerous Web sites and some Oracle databases on Solaris (Netscape server) and later on Linux (Apache server).

3. 2002-July 2008 at Berkeley Lab’s Oakland site as the senior member of a two person “Server Team” providing system administration for some 50+ servers including a little over half Linux (almost all CentOS and Redhat), a little under half FreeBSD with a few Solaris systems still in use.

During this time Mr. Donnelley made numerous presentation (most recently in August 2007 at the Usenix Security conference in Boston), taught occasional classes such as on SSH applications, and served as a conference proceedings chair (SC2000).

Some Recently Applied Technologies (generally most experience first):

Redhat/CentOS package management (RPM) with Uptodate and Yum, FreeBSD update management with Ports and packages, tar ball installs/updates, extensive MD RAID (mostly 1,5,1+0,5+0) support, Linux Kickstart configurations and builds, ipchains, iptables, and ipfw local firewall management, Oracle installs, support and tuning, Apache (LAMP) installation and support including SSL certificates, virtual servers, modules, MySQL integration, HTML/CSS, programming CGIs and some PHP, etc. Considerable experience leading a recent LDAP installation with an Oracle point of truth and 5-7 replicas (started slurpd and moved to syncrepl using OpenLDAP/BDB). Recent programming in Perl, C and Bash shells, and some C (PAM module support). PAM/NSSwitch and LDAP client configuration including NSCD. Support for IDS including custom “Bro” and Nessus. Support for servers such as Imap (Courier), FlexLM (license management), Radius, CVS/SVN, Mailman and Majordomo, Sendmail/Postfix (e.g. with TrendMicro and Spam Assassin), several Twiki wiki servers, DHCP, numerous Nagios monitoring severs. Custom backup support to the High Performance Storage System. Interfaced to Windows and AIX systems, did minimal Windows server support (e.g. IIS).
