Primary Aluminium Production Formerly IAI Form 100
Reporting Guidelines
1. Primary aluminium is aluminium tapped from electrolytic cells or pots during the electrolytic
reduction of metallurgical alumina (aluminium oxide – Al2O3). It thus excludes alloying additives and recycled aluminium.
2. Primary aluminium production is defined as the quantity of primary aluminium produced in a defined period. It is the quantity of molten or liquid metal taken from the pots and that is weighed before transfer to a holding furnace or before further processing.
3. Primary aluminium production is reported monthly and to the nearest tonne (metric ton).
4. A company unable, for whatever reason, to report primary aluminium production according to IAI definitions and rules, is expected to report consistently and as closely to those definitions and rules as is practical.
