JOB DESCRIPTION

£28,000 pro rata (part time)

1. Key responsibilities

 Provide appropriate short or longer term counselling to clients using the WGN model which encompasses a gender responsive approach, trauma focused, holistic responses, culturally sensitive practice that integrates anti- discriminatory practice.  Work from a developed understanding of oppression and the impact on the survivor with experiences of multiple discrimination.  Work from a gendered perspective and analysis to understand the root causes of violence against women.  Work in a client-centred way and integrate a holistic and feminist framework.  Offer therapeutic opportunities which elicit empowerment and personal growth.  Be able to identify potential barriers to engagement and propose engagement strategies tailored to young women, BAMER women and clients with problematic substance use.  Offer a therapeutic rationale that is developmentally and chronologically age appropriate and responds to the following: Developmental Trauma, Complex Traumatic Stress, PTSD and youth presentations of depression and anxiety disorders.  Work in an age appropriate focused way and integrate a range of therapeutic interventions e.g. Relational Attachment Focused, CBT, Positive Affect Enhancement, Creative and Expressive Mediums, Holistic and within a feminist framework.  A developed understanding of working with women chronically disempowered with diverse, enduring, complex clinical presentations. To find meaningful was to support clients to stabilise and manage acute and chronic conditions.  A creative way to support client’s recovery from problematic substance misuse. An awareness of the process of change, ability to engage clients with harm minimisation techniques and movement towards safe coping mechanisms.  Work from a strengths based approach with clients to facilitate recovery.  Carry out assessments and provide an appropriate therapeutic response to clients with varied presenting issues and levels of intense distress.  Work within and adhere to professionally agreed guidelines such as BACP / UKCP.  Keep updated and comply with WGN policies, procedures and service standards.  Comply with WGN ethos and clinical model.  Attend individual and group supervision and contribute to the quarterly clinical team meetings.  Participate in service evaluation by contributing to data collection and analysis.  Maintain adequate records of clinical work and provide appropriate statistical returns as required.  Participate in research as required.  Undertake training and a self motivated programme of continuous professional development.  Undertake WGN’s mandatory training programme regarding safe guarding and diversity.  Compliance with all WGN clinical evaluations tools such as CORE.  Participate in fortnightly group and individual clinical supervision and quarterly clinical team meetings.

2. Key relationships

 Attend supervision with line manager.

 Liaise with Senior Counsellor in relation to case management of clinical work and clinical supervision.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

PERSON SPECIFICATION CRITERIA

Hold a UK recognised professional qualification to at least E diploma level in counselling/psychotherapy and/or youth counselling A minimum of three years post qualifying clinical experience E with at least 300 supervised clinical hours Accredited by professional body or eligible for accreditation E Experience of working with young women who have E experienced violence and presenting with trauma related symptoms Have a rationalisation and framework for understanding E gendered violence Knowledge of, and competency in, a recognised trauma E model Be able to identify clients at risk and offer appropriate E strategies of intervention Knowledge of the issues faced by women from BAMER E community’s e.g. homophobia and racism Ability to engage clients from BAMER communities in E therapeutic processes, and deliver counselling with cultural sensitivity Awareness of therapeutic issues and themes in working with E clients experiences of harmful practices Commitment and ability to work within an anti-discriminatory E anti-oppressive framework Understanding of complex presentations such as DID, E depression, self harming and suicidal activation Ability to respond with effective interventions to manage E complex presentations Understanding of the issues and themes in working with E clients with problematic substance use Ability to respond with effective interventions to reduce clients E problematic substance use and support recovery Ability and willingness to make use of counselling supervision E Commitment to work within agreed guidelines, models, E polices and procedures of WGN Ability to work within time limits, including short-term clinical E contracts Ability to respond to the unique needs of individual clients E Commitment to support the aims and objectives of WGN E Experience of providing a professional, flexible and youth E -focused approach to work Ability to work as part of a team E Willingness to work in different venues primarily in west E London Ability to work regular evenings D Experience of contributing to service evaluation / CORE D Experience of providing varied therapeutic interventions such D as CBT and EMDR Ability to deliver counselling in a community language D
