6 REFURNISH DEVON JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title; Manager Location; Plymouth

Reporting to; Regional Development Manager (RDM)

Responsible for: Volunteers & staff based at Plymouth

Hours 40 per week

Purpose of Job: To be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day management of the Plymouth ReFurnish, ensuring that a professional and efficient service is maintained. To ensure that the service continues to meet the main objectives of maximising reuse and supplying low cost household items to people on low incomes. To maximise sales income and Gift Aid to ensure financial targets are met.

Specific responsibilities:

1. Shop Management a) Engage with customers to ensure they feel welcomed, valued and have a pleasant shopping experience and ensure all staff and volunteers do the same. b) Ensure the shop complies with all relevant regulations and policies such as Equal Opportunities, Trading Standards and Green Housekeeping. c) Ensure company Health & Safety policy is maintained at the shop including Risk Assessment. d) Ensure the shop is fully stocked with clean well presented furniture and appliances with clearly marked prices. e) Order replenishment items from Ivybridge ensuring all electrical goods sold are safe and in good working order. f) Responsible for the security of the premises and the cleanliness of the property internally and externally, and to work with the RDM to ensure that all appropriate regulations are met. g) Ensure waste is minimised and goods/materials which cannot be reused are recycled. h) Ensure all the centre’s activities are carried out with minimal environmental impact. i) Ensure accurate records and statistics are maintained. j) To deal with queries and complaints from donors and customers.

2. People Management a) Manage volunteers/staff in the shop ensuring their work is carried out efficiently and effectively in line with Refurnish policies and procedures. b) To ensure staff and volunteers are well motivated and attend to any difficulties that arise promptly c) Provide formal and on the job supervision and guidance for staff and volunteers d) To keep records of attendance, holidays, sickness and time keeping for any volunteers staff. e) In conjunction with the RDM, select and recruit new staff and volunteers. f) To keep records of attendance, holidays, sickness and time keeping for all staff g) In conjunction with the RDM, be responsible for staff disciplinary and grievance procedures in line with Refurnish policies h) Ensure deliveries and collections are carried out in a timely, safe and courteous manner

7 i) Ensure adequate staff or volunteer cover for all duties at all times

3. Financial a) Maximise income form sales and Gift to ensure financial targets are met. b) To administrate all financial matters ensuring receipts are given for all sales, payment is only accepted by cash, cheques (with guarantee cards) or debit cards and takings are banked promptly. c) To follow Refurnish financial procedures ensuring adequate financial systems and controls are maintained. d) To work to the agreed budget, sales targets and work plan ensuring financial targets are met. e) Maintain database of all customers insuring discount is given to all customers on benefits.

4. Health & Safety a) Ensure that any Safety equipment or Personal Protective equipment required is available and in use. b) Do monthly Health & Safety check and ensure all action required is carried out promptly c) Ensure fire safety and other equipment and adequately and regularly maintained d) Ensure all volunteers/staff receive Health & Safety training especially in manual handling and monitor that all are working in a safety conscious manner.

5. Other a) Attend meetings or training as required. b) To work some weekends. Equivalent time off is given for any weekend work. c) To ensure all staff and volunteers work in accordance with Refurnish Equal Opportunities Policy. d) To carry out any other duties as reasonably required by the RDM.

MEASUREMENTS OF SUCCESS

 Weekly sales and Gift Aid targets are met and cash is banked promptly  An effective, safe and happy staff and volunteer team.  Positive feedback from clients/customers regarding services.  A safe, tidy and well presented shop.  Length of time on average volunteers stay with the project.  The number of volunteers moving on to paid work or full-time training.  Accurate record keeping and production of reports.  All regulations and policies are complied with.  Timely completion of tasks.  Waste is kept to a minimum.  Working within agreed project budget.  A positive attitude to the work and ability to adapt with the needs of the organisation.  Positive feedback from other team members.

8 PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Qualities or Experience: 1. Experience of staff supervision and retail/stock management experience. 2. Experience of working with the general public. 3. Ability to communicate clearly, to empathise with people and work as part of a team. 4. Current First Aid qualification or a willingness to obtain. 5. Confident in the use of Microsoft Office software and computer peripherals. 6. Some financial management and administration experience. 7. A commitment to recycling and/or improving the environment. 8. A commitment to improving people’s lives. 9. Knowledge of anti-discriminatory practice and ability to get on with a wide range of people 10. Fit enough to safely lift household items such as furniture and appliances. 11. A full, clean driving licence.

Desirable Qualities or Experience: 1. Experience of working in the voluntary sector. 2. Experience of working with vulnerable people. 3. Experience of training others. 4. Practical skills such as electrical engineering, woodworking or re-upholstery. 5. Experience of setting-up new initiatives.
