OSB Sustainable Future Section Proposed Plan for Calendar Year 2013 ----- Dick’s Discussion Draft of December 26, 2013 -----

Committee Jennifer Gates, Jim Kennedy, Dick Roy (Chair), Robin Seifried, Micah Steinhilb, Maggie Vining, Barry Woods Meeting types  Regular – Discrete topic related to the practice of law. SFS takes lead in organizing event, possibly with another section or group as co-sponsor. 2012 example: Program on wave energy.  Special – Important or interesting topic not closely related to the practice of law. 2012 example: Program about FoodCorps.  Piggyback – SFS is co-sponsor, but does not have the lead in organizing. 2012 example: Program on OSU-led climate study organized by Engineers for a Sustainable Future.  Point-Counterpoint – format to add interest to a topic: 2012 example: Coal export debate. 2012 programs planned by Program Committee 1. Jan 30 Special – Journey of the Universe (film) Attendance: 48: 24 lawyers, 3 students, 1 legal assistant, and 20 others 2. Feb 29 Regular – Wave energy, Jason Busch Attendance: 28 est all lawyers (includes telephone attendance) 3. Mar 13 Piggyback – OSU-led climate study, Andreas Schmittner Attendance: 40 est; 20 lawyers + 20 engineers 4. April 11 Regular – Economics, Ed Whitelaw, Bryce Ward Attendance: 30 est 5. June 20 Regular – K’s 10-year energy plan, Margi Hoffman Attendance: 32 of which est 25 were lawyers 6. Sept 4 Special – Foodcorps – a new national initiative, Curt Ellis Attendance: 37 of which 18 were lawyers 7. Sept 18 Regular – What drives business interest in sustainability? Susan Sokol-Blosser, Tom Kelly, Sattie Clark Cancelled – lack of interest 8. Nov 14 Regular – Coal exporting, Brett Vanden Heuvel, Greg Peden Attendance: 45 est; mostly lawyers

2013 Plan  Goal: six programs (excluding piggybacks): 4 regular programs and 2 special programs  If Executive Committee travels to other communities, experiment with an informal conversation with local lawyers on a topic of generic interest (not confined to local interest) 2013 Calendar (planning in place) 1.
