BUSINESS MEMBER SAMPLE LETTER TO THE GOVERNOR

[NAME OF COMPANY/ORGANIZATION]

The Honorable Edmund G. Brown, Jr. Governor, State of California State Capitol Building, First Floor Sacramento, CA 95814

RE: NEED FOR A STATE SCHOOL BOND ON THE NOVEMBER 2014 BALLOT

Dear Governor Brown:

On behalf of [NAME OF COMPANY/ORGANIZATION], this letter is to urge you to place a school bond on the November 2014 ballot.

Please write a short comment about your company and the type of work that you do for school districts, the school districts that you serve, recent projects and the number of employees that you currently have and, if appropriate, the number of employees you once had prior to the Great Recession and/or the diminishment of school construction projects in your region in California.

Comment upon the negative impacts and the detrimental effects of the lack of school construction projects as a major part of the building industry in California.

Additionally, CHOOSE ONE POINT FROM THE LIST BELOW TO INCLUDE.  A statewide bond incentivizes local communities to support local bonds on the November 2014 ballot and into the future  A statewide bond will have an economic stimulus effect  A school bond would put real dollars on the street within 90 days of a project funding approval by the State Allocation Board, under the Priorities in Funding program.  Construction jobs would begin immediately  Californians recognize that schools are old, outdated, and require upgrades  Funding for K-12 school repair continues to be a top priority to registered voters according to the 2014 Poll done by Fairbank, Maslin, Mullin, Metz and Associates

Your support for the placement of a state school bond on the November 2014 ballot will send a powerful message to the business community that the state intends to support an economic stimulus tool focused upon school construction – every $1billion in state school bonds creates 13,000 jobs.

Sincerely,
