1. Start and end on time

2. Everyone is encouraged to participate

3. We seek common ground for collective coordinated action, not necessarily agreement

4. Have an open mind, seek to understand other’s perspectives

5. Address ideas, not individuals

6. Be courteous and respectful

7. Indicate when you want to speak (e.g., raise hand, eye contact with facilitator)

8. One person speaks at a time

9. Speak for yourself, use “I” statements

10. Monitor your participation (limit or expand contributions, no lectures, stay on topic)

11. Respect and support the role of the facilitator

12. Turn off pagers and cell phones. At a minimum place them on vibrate.
